Serinde's Cradle In The Night Sky

The Legend Of Cradles

"In the age before the mortal races, Serinde, the Goddess of The Hearth and Motherhood, discovered that she was with her first child in her marriage to Galyron, The God Of The Wilds. In her joy, Serinde told her husband of their coming heir, and he fashioned for her a cradle made of earth and pine so that the child could draw their strength from growing things.
When the time came for the child to be born, Serinde laid the babe in the cradle of stone, confident in the strength of its crafting, and went to her rest at her husband's side. Alas when she awoke, Serinde found the cradle empty, the child had become one with the stone and vine; returning to the wilds of it's father's domain. Galyron remade the cradle into a body the child could use, and let it loose upon the wilds of the world. This child became the first Earth Elemental.
Serinde's sorrow could not be measured, and she mourned the loss for many years. Then came the day she learned she was with child once more. With both hope and fear she approached her husband to tell him of the news, and this time Galryon fashioned a cradle of water and ice so that the child could draw their strength from water's ability to change. When the child came Serinde laid it in the cradle just as she had before, this time sure of the water's soothing, then going to rest at her husband's side. Alas when she awoke once more, Serinde found the cradle empty. The child had become one with wave and shard; returning as the first had. Galryon remade the cradle into a body the child could use, and gave it to his sister Linare, The Goddess of Oceans. This child became the first Water Elemental..."

This cycle continues two more times, resulting in the creation of the first Fire and Air Elementals and Serinde becoming harder and harder to console as the cycle continues. By the time Serinde learns that she is pregnant with her fifth child, she has had enough of allowing her children to be taken from her, and hides her pregnancy from Galryon. She decides instead to seek out the advice of Ireul, The God of Knowledge. He tells her to find the safest place in the heavens and to build a hearth there to raise the baby by. Serinde does as he suggests. When she finally finds the safest place, Serinde is close to giving birth once more.

With no time to ask for help, and knowing the elements of the earth would only claim this child as it had the previous children, Serinde fashioned a cradle from the heavens themselves, fashioning stars to keep the babe from sight. At long last, the cradle worked as intended, and Serinde named her surviving daughter Kyriel. Kyriel would go on to become the Goddess Of The Hunt, and Serinde would go on to use the cradle three more times to safely carry her children, Rieliah Goddess Of Song, Sielyr God Of Fire, & Celure God Of Healing.
Type: Constellation

The Stars

Of all the stars in Undera's night sky, the fourteen stars which make up Serinde's Cradle may not be the brightest, but that does not change the importance that they hold for ships navigating the Pheral Sea after the sun has set below the horizon. Believed to have been placed in the safest part of the heavens by Serinde, the motherly Goddess of The Hearth, following the constellation's rising and falling through the night sky is believed to ensure their vessels sail on calm waters, no matter the season.
