Urik Bonecrush Backstory

Urik was born of the Black Crow Clan of Orcs, to a mother named Chaella. His father is unknown, as he was conceived during a fertility rite worshipping Torya which is performed every 7 years. Children conceived during these rites are known as “Chollak Maas”, or Children of the Clan (CM).     As a CM, Urik was expected to become a great warrior and defender of the clan. His studies focused on fighting and warfare, and he learned little that didn’t directly make him a more powerful warrior. On his 10th birthday, a grey headed Orc female arrived from the sea in a small, one-Orc boat. She announced that the Chollak Maas would become a great Warrior-Priest, but that one day he would desert his people. The seer’s name was never known and the next morning both she and her boat had disappeared.     From that day forward Urik was shunned by his people. Although he still lived in the village he had no close friends, and was often the target of bullying and abuse by the other children. Even his mother ignored him.     Urik’s only close friend was a feeble 50 year old Half-Orc, named Maalik Stonebearer. Maalik introduced Urik to the worship of Josca and encouraged him to find his own path, rather than being concerned about the traditional role of a Chollak Maas. Maalik had been an adventurer in his youth, and told many tales about his adventures. When Urik was fourteen, he was listening to one of these stories when his friend Maalik fell dead at his feet from an aneurysm. When the elder Maalik fell at his feet, Urik knew that he would be blamed for his death. Suddenly, a shimmering visage of the seer that had caused him so much trouble appeared. She told him to gather his belongings and to leave immediately for the city of Chraillis.     Not knowing why he trusted the seer, Urik discretely gathered as much gold and equipment as he could and headed south along the coast in a small kayak, and eventually headed inland to the City of Rings (Chraillis). Upon arriving in Chraillis, he found that he was no longer judged about a prophecy, but only for his skills and actions. He quickly found a temple to Josca and, not knowing how he would support himself in the city, offered his services as an acolyte. The High-Priest, a Gnome female named Sera, welcomed him without hesitation. After realizing that Urik’s skills and abilities were more focused on combat than liturgy, she sent him to a smaller temple on the outskirts of Chraillis that focused on developing warriors to serve Josca’s needs and desires. Here Urik was trained by a Human male nicknamed Crane, because of his long skinny legs.     Urik had been training at the temple for exactly one year and a day, when Crane approached him about a vision that he had seen the night before. An Elderly Orc female, smelling faintly of saltwater, appeared as a vision and told him that Urik needed to serve Dame Imoakan if he wished to save his people.
