Maalik Stonebearer

Urik's Teacher   Maalik Stonebearer was born 52 years ago under the Seer’s moonphase, and died suddenly two years ago on the last day of the same sign. A cleric of Josca, he began adventuring when he was 14. He and two others from his village began calling themselves The Black Crow League. Their adventures led them to the sea where they spent two and a half years sailing under the flag of Rokkar the Merciless.   At the age of 17, following a battle with Sahaguin, Maalik contracted a wasting illness that was never identified and could not be cured through medical or clerical means. As his formerly muscular arms began to wither away, and his back bowed from the illness. He begrudgingly settled down in his home village acting as a healer and eventually a spiritual adviser.   He became well known for his wisdom, and when he was in his mid-30’s Maalik was elected to take over as the spiritual leader for the entire Black Crow clan. He presided over the Chollak Maas two years later, and as a result of that ceremony, the young warrior who would become his best friend was conceived.   By the time Urik Bonecrusher was old enough to appreciate his wisdom, Maalik’s back was almost completely bent over, and his wrinkled dark green skin was accented with a sparse beard and a patchy head of hair. Excess folds of skin hung from his chest and biceps where muscles once belonged. On his face a vivid white scar, going from his right ear to the bottom of his chin, showed the track of the axe that had broken off his right tusk.   As Maalik continued to age he became weaker, but his wisdom and knowledge were treasured not only in his clan but also from the leaders of nearby clans. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 50.
