Journal Entry 08.02 - The Interrogation of Sir Caladanis
Sir Caladanis is interrogated. Aja casts a permanent curse on him causing him to sneeze should he lie. Aja is surprised at how potent her curses can be. The party learns that Dame Imokan is a hero of Chrailis and has a sister.
General Summary
Sir Caladanis begins waking up. Urik stands ready in a very threatening manner just in case any of the other captives try anything foolish.
Aja peers in Sir Caladanis's left ear, then in his right. She stamps one foot, then waggles her nose at him. Just then, Gigi lets out a sneeze (something no one has never seen him do) and nearly topples from her shoulder. Aja then sweetly says to the knight, “Good morning, Sir Caladanis! My name is Aja! It is so nice to meet you! If you don't mind, my friends and I just have a few questions to ask you.” Unbeknownst to the knight, Aja has just cast 'bestow curse' on him. He is now cursed to always sneeze should he tell a lie.
He groggily replies, "Yeah, ask your questions. It'll definitely break the monotony of this place." He then looks over at one of the corpses, "Shit! You killed Gutch. He always gets pissy and unbearable for several months after getting killed." He doesn't sneeze.
Graykar asks, “What do you remember about this place and how you came to be here?”
"Well, I guess you mean this room, in this accursed mountain? Probably the same way you got here, you were directed by those damn elves to come here if you wished to gain your freedom. And how I came to this world? Well, that is another story. By my reckoning, my men and I have been here at least a few centuries. I was at my estates outside my home city when it became necessary to leave in a hurry.
We were heading north to seek refuge with some of my allies when we got word that a large contingent of orcs was spearheading to cut us off. <SNEEZE> Excuse me. We changed direction and headed due east for two days with plans to circle around. Now understand, where I come from, this was a scary proposition because we were entering some very haunted woods. A place I knew orcs <small sneeze> would never brave. However, I was good friends with a couple of the druids in these woods so I was depending on their help for safe passage.
That's when we came across a rather dismal looking elf. He asked for food, saying he had been lost for several days. Of course we gave aid. He thanked us profusely. With his strength restored, he said he now could cast his gate spell to leave these woods behind. We stood around and blindly allowed him to cast his spell, believing he told us the truth. Expecting him to create a gate or to just disappear, in no time a purple mist rose up around us. Next thing we knew, we were in this accursed world."
Sir Caladanis then looks at his remaining men with a scowl and then leans in and whispers to Graykar, "By the way, which of these scoundrels gave up my real name?"
He doesn’t get a response as Aja blurts in, “Estates? What's an estates? Is that one of those big houses like Dame Imokan has? Dame Imokan is very proud of her Estates. What forced you to leave yours in such a rush?”
“Dame Imokan? You don't mean Aisling Imokan Líadan of House Elurica? The Savior of Casterling Row? Did they finally honor her for her efforts in saving Chrailis? Hopefully you not referring to sister Gráinne Líadan? No Gráinne would never accept Imokan's name. How silly. Been a long time since I have had a conversation with anyone. How is she doing - it's been so long. I guess she is an elf so she is probably still doing well."
"Wow! You're from Chrailis? Cursed not to forget, I am eternally homesick. Yes - I have - or had I should say a nice estate just north of Chrailis on the Downslopes. Nothing as nice as the Elurica family, but it was home. So Dame Imokan, that's great. She deserved being knighted after all she's done for the Aristocracy."
In an effort to keep him off balance, Graykar immediately asks, "Sir Caladanis, surely you didn't think that business between yourself and the orcs would be forgotten. I must admit it took some time but here we find ourselves at last. So why don't you tell me your account of what drove you from Chrailis.”
With his demeanor getting much more guarded Sir Caladanis replies, "So you are from Chrailis also? I would assume that business long forgotten. I was framed and set up, you see. I was completely innocent <sneeze>. It was my new business partners which were corrupt. Without their scapegoat, I would have guessed they needed to pin their activities on others. I completely abhor the idea of slavery <sneeze>. I would absolutely never sell a child, not even an orc,” he then looks nervously at Urik, "er um, not even a lizardfolk child into slavery. I only fled when I had word that a contingent of the Stone March had seized my assets in the city. I had it on good authority that the captain of the contingent was corrupt. I wasn't planning on going far - I had friends up north who would shelter me until I could get the mess straightened out."
Caladanis then pauses, looking around, "Excuse me, something seems to have bothered my airs, would one of you have a rag I could keep for my nose?"
Aja hands him a not-entirely clean handkerchief then is distracted by something Morvion has seen on the walls of the dungeon. For now, the interrogation seems to be over.
