Journal Entry 02.00 - The Journey to Canton

Seeking banshee blood, Morvion directs the party to his homeland and his birth village, Canton. On the way, they meet Bonner’s Brigade which had been hunting lizard folk for their tails. They arrive at Canton only to find it being searched by pillagers.

General Summary

The decision is made to go and get some Banshee blood. This will also be a chance for Morvion to visit his homelands once more.   They set out and the first 50 miles of the journey goes well. They reach the limit of the area regularly patrolled by the rangers and spend the night at an elvish village by the name of Linsterata – a village of about 50 elves.   Heading out, about 4 to 5 days later, they come across a group of soldiers they quickly determine to be a subgroup of the Rough Sons known as Bonner’s Brigade numbering about 17 in number. They are returning from a recent raid on a lizard man camp where they killed all, including the elderly and the young. This is determined from the barrels your party finds containing lizard tails which Bonner’s Brigade have collected with the intention of turning the tails to the leader of the Rough Sons for 4-5 gp’s each.   The leader of the group is a vibrantly dressed dandy named Bonner. He does not make a secret of what they are doing, bragging about the raid like they did something great and brave.   While there a mid-level druid who protects these areas visits the camp, investigating who is coming through her woods. Her name is Drucilla. Her animal companion is a large yellow jacket (with almost an 18” wingspan) which sits on her shoulder.   The next day, leaving Bonner’s Brigade behind, they set out and about midday are ambushed by a boggard ranger. He is a major challenge for the party, however they overcome him and find that he was using a ring of tree form to aid in his ambush of them.   After taking him out, they continue and find out the boggard was a scout for a larger group of boggards hunting Bonner’s Brigade.   Being too weak from their last encounter, they let the boggards go by. However, they determine if the boggards continue on their path, they will actually miss Bonner’s Brigade (which was now heading in a northward direction) and run right into the town of Linsterata.   Doing their civic duty, they find a Ranger outpost which in turn says they can get the alert to Linstrerata before the boggards arrive.   Having done all they could do, the party continues on.   Over the next several weeks, they have a few minor encounters. One such encounter has Tars being attacked by a large anaconda which almost kills him. So severe are his wounds it takes them a full week, with cure spells also being used, for Tars to recover. The only other major skirmish they had was a large pack of dire rats they had to fight off. (During this journey, Graykar suddenly recollected why wading in the river can be a bad idea as he is bitten a few times by a hungry pod of piranhas.)   Approaching Morvion’s village, they come across a scouting party of lizard men. Setting an ambush, they attack. However, the trap slightly turns as it becomes apparent the lizard men are thralls of two tengus. The tengus are using a yellow powder of Bo-Seed oil to fog up and mind control the lizard men.   Quickly winning the battle, one of the tengus takes off fleeing. Morvion gives chase. The tengu leads Morvion and the rest of the party right into a Flowering Rope Tree. The tree nearly wipes out some of the party. In the process, the tengu is killed without any information gained. Heading on to Morvion’s village, they find more lizard men are in it, tearing it up and vandalizing it further. Around the base of the main tree are 5 ogres roaming around.   Sneaking up through another side exit, the party clears out the lizard men and find the leader of this group is another tengu. While these lizards don’t seem to be operating with diminished capacity, they all enter a berserking rage as soon as they enter combat. Somewhat unusual.   In the aftermath of the battle, they search the village for a few days trying to find whatever the tengu and lizard men were looking for, however to no avail. They also figure out that the ogres are a programmed illusion projected from a wooden stake planted in the ground and never actually existed.
