Hypothesis of Universal Magic Technology (UMT)

More of an abstract, many scholars have dedicated their lives to trying to prove a basis for this hypothesis.
The idea puts forth the idea that magic itself is an artificial creation of an ancient early race of the multiverse. It claims that the reason magic works on the fabric of reality is that this ancient race, technologically advanced, created a network of machines hidden to perception which they used natural physics to alter the larger reality. This mysterious force explains somewhat the perceived effects of dark matter and dark energy as being related to this hidden network.
Using the network, the ancient race performed feats which could be perceived as magic by lesser races. Today, when a mage casts a spell using arcane words and gestures, what is actually being done is giving commands to this hidden network.
Mostly discounted, the hypothesis does help explain the Shar' Dan in how the Shar Dankra see actual patterns of reality and merely by force of will overwrite it with a new reality.
