Flowering Rope Tree

A tree nearing 50’ in height with branches spreading out as wide as the tree is tall. It is sparsely leafed. Growing out from the base are long bone-white ground vines stretching out almost 75 feet hiding just under the leaves.   Each vine senses movement and will quickly wrap around anything that moves and start constricting it. Each of these vines covered with tiny hollow thorns which will embed within the flesh of any captured prey and then break off. The whole purpose of the vines is to capture prey and bleed it out as they hold it over the root system near the surface of the ground.   The leaves of the tree grow quickly allowing the tree to constantly lose leaves, making the tree generally look sparsely leafed. Because of this, the ground around each tree has a thick cover of leaves. The average time from when a leaf buds to when it falls is about four days.   Around the tree, one can generally see several drying and decaying carcasses. The leaves themselves are slightly acidic and if they fall on a corpse, they start dissolving the corpse slowly over the course of days. This leaf cover also helps mask the smells of the dead as the acid from the leaves quickly neutralizes these odors. Not all the odors are counteracted as exhibited by carrion eaters still being attracted to the corpses. Such carrion eaters often end up trapped and killed themselves.   The Flowering part comes from the sweet lavender-like aroma the tree produces. The flowers are collected occasionally as the scent is known to slightly decrease inhibitions.   Animals like birds possessing flight are generally safe in the branches.   Fortunately, these trees are far and few between abd how they propagate is unknown.
