Falgrieg Background

Falgrieg was born to Falnor and Elienna Wineberry, in the small Gnomish settlement of Miergan’s Gorge. He had a happy childhood, spending hours with the other children playing Hide & Seek and Chase the Orc. In addition to his normal schooling, Falgrieg spent hours every day working with his parents breeding and raising riding dogs and ponies.

He had planned on spending his life working at, and eventually taking over the family business, but very un-gnomish feeling came over him and he began to long for adventure. When Falgrieg heard that the Rangers needed additional personnel to manage their stables he jumped at the chance.
Falgrieg was 34 when he left for the Rangers. Less than six months later his commander, Evanne Wingsword, realized that his talents were wasted in the stables and put him into the Scout Battalion. After teaching him basic combat techniques, he focused on using his speed and dexterity instead of his muscles and giving him even more training in stealth he was deployed to his first unit as a scout. Over the next 65 years he moved from unit to unit, but always strove to be where the action was. He had several opportunities to move up the chain of command, but always refused them so that he could stay in the field, instead of behind a desk.
On his 100th birthday, Falgrieg’s uncle (Shandallah Wineberry - a minor Wizard in the city), sent him a well-worn, leather-bound text on the art and history of Summoning. Falgrieg knew that his muscles were aching a lot more in the morning than they had used to, and decided that he should continue his service by using his brains rather than his back. After receiving approval for a sabbatical from The Rangers, Uncle Shandallah made the proper introductions and Falgrieg began studying in the city under the auspices of a half-elf named Tallis (Is there a Summoner’s Academy or school of magic, or did he study under a single individual??)
Over the past 20 years, Falgrieg has served as a reservist in The Rangers, while he completed his studies. He has spent years (literally) of his life cooped up in dark rooms, reading moldy texts, and during that time he has made the acquaintance of a Gnome widow named Laliesha Stormbend who works as an assistant in one of the major libraries. They are not yet courting, but anytime he has the chance Falgrieg finds a reason to study at her library.
Two weeks ago, Tallis granted Falgrieg the title of Summoner, and told him that the best way to continue his studies is through adventure. Falgrieg is planning on maintaining his reserve status with the Rangers as he learns more about his new skills and his new friend, the Eidolon.
