Corvain's Complex

Contents.   Main office - 4 story building. Corvain's office is the top floor.   Arena - Log fort about 100 yards on a side. Each vertical log is 20' tall and ends in a fire hardened point, largely for appearance. The fighter's entrance is Death's Womb. Per Bassil, "It is the fighter’s entrance and exit. All warriors leaving the Arena either re-enter the world as better fighter or as corpses when they leave the Womb.” The main entrance is actually outside of the compound just off the main street.   Walking further down the hallway, two passages descended from either side of the hall with a short series of stairs ending at a large oaken door. “This is where the gladiators wait. This side is our side, on the other three sides of the arena is a similar hallway for the visiting gladiator stables.” Continuing past the stairs the hallway started sloping up and widening. Leading Nash up the hallway, it widened to about fifteen feet wide and ended at an iron portcullis. Walking over to the side wall, Bassil started turning a large spindle attached to a chain. The Portcullis raised into the ceiling to show a full view of the field of battle. A large circular arena, nearly 80 yards in diameter. Both men stepped out onto the dusty field. Nash looked around to see wooden bleachers rising nearly to the top of the outer wall. The field of battle was surrounded by a stone wall almost 10 feet high. All around the arena, both on the field and in the bleachers he could see women, children, and older men cleaning up what looked to be rubble.   Small HospitalCorvain keeps a small hospital for his fighters, and for a fee, to aid the fighters of visiting crews.   Kern's Tower - top two levels have been destroyed by his spell of summoning.   Training Grounds The training grounds were in the lowest part of the compound with stair paths, dug into the steep outer walls, which descended into the large pit where the gladiators practiced and trained. The grounds were actually about double the size of the arena with a whole half of the field devoted to obstacle courses and tracks for horseback practice. The main advantage of having the training grounds so far down in a pit was that from the top of the surrounding dirt wall a full view of all activities could be seen. The wall was steep enough and the pit deep enough that no matter what building one stood in, one could not see down into the pit. This helped bar spies from studying the tactics or maneuvers which Corvain’s crew was working on. She well knew how important such spying could be, having helped Corvain’s men win countless battles by being prepared for some nasty ‘surprise.’ All of the important buildings to the training facility had been built into the surrounding earthen walls to increase the overall security along with an extensive network of spells layering the field to prevent magical scrying.
