Calendar of Arisilon

Written by Ozzymandias

The Arisilon calendar is divided into 25 months, based on the zodiac rising at sun up during those times. While a day is still broken up into 24 hours, there have been attempts to relate the day to 25 hours. The easy divisibility of 24 into quarter days of 6 hours trumps the logic of a 25 hour day.   The Calendar consists of a solar year which is 572 days long. An extra day is added every third year.   The naming convention of years is PE for Pyrideon Era if counting forward, BC for Before Coalescence if counting backward from the time of the crossover, and AC for After Coalescence if counting forwards from the time of Coalescence.   The week of each month is divided into 13 days with the days named after the Thirteen Gods of Peace.

Stentag is often a day of rest for clergy along with their specific deity’s day. Lastday is a day of rest for the common laborer. Artist and Craftsman often take Yahallatag as a day of rest. Depending on the culture, other days may be considered days free from the toils of working. Kritang is often also taken as a day of rest, meaning for many, each 13 day week will have 2 or 3 days when one is expected to be free of the toils of labor. Even slaves will generally get one day a week off.
The days of the week are:
Stentag
Valtang
Radtag
Bortag
Jostang
Yahallatag
Kristang
Toryatang or Tortang
Sandtag
Slinjetang
Dalsharday or Lethtang in societies allowing the worship of Letheria
Azuraday or Ramtag in societies allowing the worship of Ramian Fax
Lastday. It is also known at times as the day of evil if found working. This is the day reserved for Grethello and some might call it Gretag. Kraylin refers to the Lastday as Sunday.
The year starts with the first day of spring. Each season is roughly 143 days long.

Spring Months

Sinbakaya - 33 Days The month of Torya, Sinbakaya refers to the three twined trees representing her. This month is the beginning of the planting season. Once every three years, there is an extra day added to the beginning of the month. This day is called Sunfest.
Dalgra Voight - 17 Days The month of the migrating dragon flights which occur every 10 years off the southern coast of Arisilon as they travel from places unknown to places unknown, never once landing in Arisilon. The flight often lasts for days due to the sheer number of dragons. The zodiac is that of 27 stars representing dragons flying in formation.
Sessilgon - 12 Days Sessilgon is the Cage of Malice. This zodiac is 7 stars in a rough cube shape. Legend has it that it is the prison of the Old Gods of War.
Gorvus - 27 Days The month and zodiac is attributed to Radok. Gorvus is the great bear, Radok's storm aspect, in particular, his aspect of rain. As such, Gorvus is of particular importance to farmers.
Simolcales - 24 Days Simocales is the Anvil of Creation which the All-Father used to create the Gods of War. He later created the Gods of Peace to replace the Gods of War who had used the Anvil of Creation to make their Horrors. He then destroyed the Anvil so it would never be misused again.
Serenity - 30 Days The month of Valshin. The zodiac is often also called the Good Shepherd.

Summer Months

Stijaka - 41 Days Stijaka is the name of Stengard's dragon aspect and is the name of this zodiac. It represents the beginning of summer longest day of the year on the 1st day of the month.
Ulor - 13 Days Ulor is the zodiac of the Whale. The legend is largely forgotten and only speculations now exist as to what it meant before Coalescence.
Severos - 31 Days Severos is the knowledge aspect of Yahalla, representing the Gold Monkey that holds the Scrolls of All Knowledge.
Daos - 9 Days Daos is the key to the tomb of the old Gods of War. Interestingly, it is not associated with the legend of Sessilgon and the Cage of Malice. Accordingly, Daos supposedly only locked the hidden tomb, it will not open it.
Malix Sixa - 18 Days Malix Sixa are the singular and plural forms for the major servants of the Gods of Peace. Though they can take any form, they look very similar to the Alar - wings and all. When in animal form, they often have the appearance of a winged lion.
Ias - 31 Days Ias is the zodiac of the Hourglass of the Ever Watchful Eye as All Time Moves On - belonging to Kristor.

Autumn Months

Korcephalon - 31 Days Korcephalon is Josca's winged blue war horse. In her aspect of war, the sighting of her horse is centered in many legends as representing the beginning of the end for enemies, and the nearing of victory for Josca's servants.
Thros - 18 Days This zodiac concerns another vague legend about the Throne of the Wanderer, probably from before Coalescence. That throne is known as Thros.
Naryu - 16 Days Naryu is the river of all thought and consciousness flowing from the great gulf created when the All-Father left this world to create a permanent division between life and death after killing the Gods of War in order to ensure they could never return. Naryu represents his continuing presence of wisdom despite him no longer having direct interaction with this realm.
Samdera - 27 Days Samdera is the zodiac of Sanderal's ever full flask made from a spiraled horn of the weeping beast.
Monira - 13 Days Monira is the month of the minor servants of the gods, known as the Monira. Every 14th year, Radtag is skipped to keep the calendar on track. Legend is that Sanderal lulled all the Monira to sleep and stole the day to win a bet against Radok that he could steal the suns for a whole day. This is known as the year of the Sleeping Monira or Sleeping Servants. When speaking of the month, it is usually called Radok's Monira. However, every 42nd year (when Sunfest also occurs in the same year), instead of losing a day, the month gains a day. As a gift, Sanderal then gave the day to Josca so she could mourn her fallen heroes. Then the year is called the Hero's Year, the month called the month of the Honoring Monira.
Ebon - 17 Days Ebon is one of the many names of Slinjetto's Black Ship. It is rarely used in reference to the Black Ship and almost always refers to the zodiac.
Surn - 21 Days Surn is the zodiac heralding the coming of death and is the name of Grethello's spider aspect as its web is spun heralding doom for all pitiful enough to get captured. Sometimes the term Spider Slayer is used rather than Surn, especially when an emphasis is sought. Some see the zodiac as appearing as a web in the sky rather than a spider. However, the web's name in legend is Savarral, not Surn.

Winter Months

The Scales - 23 Days Borollo's Scales of Judgment used at the moment of death, or sometimes right before if the gods have an interest in intervening to save a mortal's life.
Pernash - 32 Days Or the Phoenix which is Slinjetto's primary symbol, representing the unity of all of her aspects: Chaos, Fire, Water, and Magic. Much like the phoenix of several legends, the Phoenix of Slinjetto is commonly displayed in many of the stories and symbology of rebirth.
Lethalis - 27 Days Lethalis is the main symbol of Letheria, as well as her symbol of pain when all three blades are red. The symbol is three curved blades pointing inward, evenly spaced, with the points either not touching or barely touching. Sometimes instead of Lethalis, the symbol is known as the Triblades, though the zodiac almost never is. While the name day of the week is often scorned in relation to Letheria, as this is often the coldest month of the year, this month is always directly associated with Letheria.
Torakord - 14 days Torakord is the zodiac of the Dark Tortoise. Again a barely understood myth. The zodiac is of Elvish origin. Many will mistakenly associate this month with Torya.
Darvois - 33 Days Also Darkvoid, or the Darkness. This area of the sky is absent of all stars and is said to be Ramian's palace in the sky from where he directs all dark and evil schemes. It is the zodiac which isn't - though many of dark intent claim to have visions of a zodiac of stars during visions or while meditating.
Malveriter - 14 Days Malveriter is a zodiac with multiple meanings. It is also known as The Torch. As the Torch, it represents the lighting of the skies following Darvois. Many refer to it as the master of disguises - the flickering darkness out of the sun. Many refer to it with the common adage that without light, there can be no darkness. But it also represents the early dawn, the end of winter and the coming of spring.
