Wild Ones Ethnicity in Under an Iron Sky | World Anvil

Wild Ones

We are one with nature.
Druid groups that call themselves the Wild Ones live throughout Miylia and other worlds primarily Shinia. They believe in living with nature as one and enjoy powerful nature magics. This basically means that they shun anything that is related to technology. They make their own clothes and gather food from the forest or anywhere else in nature.   They choose to live with nature in close-net communities and don't venture into technological cities unless there is a great cause to do so. Wild Ones want to work together and get things done together. They have seen how advances in technology and sometimes magic have driven people away from each other. They believe that this is what is making the world more and more dangerous. They choose to make a community where their children will be safe because they want what is best for them.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Nature has a way of balancing itself out.
The Wild Ones believe that nature is in perfect balance with itself at all times. They see natural resources as something that is borrowed and then given back when they die. These beliefs are one reason why most people think they are all druids which is not completely wrong most are.

Average technological level

Due to their skepticism and hatred of technicality, the Wild Ones' use of technology is primitive.

Common Dress code

The Wild Ones are freer in their clothing choices and often wear homespun clothes. Spun from whatever they can find in nature or the few creatures that they do farm. Their clothes vary depending on where they live but are often made of hide and decorated with feathers.

Art & Architecture

Architecture

The architecture of the Wild Ones varies based on what they have around to build with. If they live in a more forest area they will use magic to grow their homes from the trees. If they live in rocky valleys they will use magic to carve their homes from the stone. If the Wild Ones decide to live near the coast they will use driftwood and other resources to make their homes. To them, the function of the home is more important than beauty, so they don't really care how the house looks as long as it is dry.

Foods & Cuisine

The Wild Elves primarily eat meat although they can eat vegetation these are secondary to their diets. Several of their dishes are meat-based with optional veggie and fruit side dishes. Protein is very important to them as it makes up most of their diet. Wild Elves also consume a lot of dairy products and even found methods of making milk products alcoholic and they love eggs.   They don't traditionally farm their food with light fencing or magical barriers to keep the animals in certain spaces. Those spaces are not always the safest for the farm animals as the Wild Elves don't think the wilderness should be contained but lived with. Most of the fruits and vegetables that they do grow are mixed together and allowed to take over their spaces with some maintenance so as not to choke the other plants. Their farming is free-range and wild by trying to farm in a way that helps nature not hurting it.   Farming is not the only way that they get food and the way that they have traditionally done this is by hunting and gathering. The Wild Elves are the best Elven hunters because of their strong connection to nature. When they hunt they will take and utilize every part of the animals that they kill and while they are hunting they will gather edible plants and eggs. They are good at finding berries and roots but not over-harvesting them so that nature can still have what it needs. Same with the eggs they do not take all of the eggs from the nest and only harvest when the birds are not at the nest.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Once a baby is born the tiny Elf is not allowed to touch the ground because of the special connection that the Wild Ones have. The Wild Ones believe that the first connection with nature and thus the ground is very important. For the first year of life, the Elf and placed on the ground, and on the first birthday, the family has a ritual of setting the baby on the ground. A Druid oversees the ceremony and makes sure that the child has a good introduction to the forest. After this the child can be placed on the ground and is encouraged to learn how to crawl and walk.

Common Taboos

It is forbidden to use any form of technology. The Wild Ones do not like using computers or anything else that makes doing things easier or faster. They will not use sewing machines and do everything by hand or with magic.

Racial Abilities

All Elves are different in how they interact with their environments and how they use magic since Elves are very magically gifted. The Wild Ones are originally from Shinia, the Fairy World, where the Elves fled from Miyla and they primarily live in forests off of the land. Although great and stealthy fighters the Wild Elves don't always choose to fight because of their use of Alteration magic. Much like the Shifter Dragons and Okeri these Elves can use this type of magic to shapeshift and can naturally shift into an animal or plant. This shifting ability makes most casters that are Wild Elves Druids  The Wild Elves are the only shapeshifters that can choose to shift into plants and will do so as camouflage and to escape from Driki or Chlai Slavers. This has changed their Elven physicality making their skin more sensitive so they can photosynthesize while in plant forms. Other than being able to do that the Wild Ones' skin is very sensitive to touch making them easier to hurt and their pressure points easier to get to than most other Elves. This makes them desirable Slaves to the Chlai people as Tiaad Breic and Giustanonne which are slave careers that focus on sexual acts. This is because it takes very little touch to arouse sexual desire in them.
