Mara

(a.k.a. Mar)

Mara is the oldest sibling of three, and she was born three generations after the Cataclysm. She doesn't know much about what happened back then, as it was taboo to even talk about around older folk. Their family moved around a lot, due to constant barrages of aggressive creatures. They sought a safe patch of land that was safe enough to build a home and grow things on a farm. Her parents kept a small batch of seeds, both rare and common.
But her family was shattered by a megafauna attack, in the middle of the night. There was almost complete destruction of the small house they had taken refuge in. Both her parents were crushed in the rubble, as well as one of her siblings. The only other survivor was her youngest brother, Ashes. But he had been badly injured- his right leg was crushed and pinned under rubble, and the only way he could survive was to sever his leg below the knee. Mara helped him once the deed was done, bandaging him up and carrying him to safety.
The two fusions traveled a lot after that. To make travel easier, they made a makeshift prosthesis for his leg and smoothed down a branch into a workable crutch. Despite their losses, Mara had managed to find the bag of seeds their parents had kept, and wanted to continue their parents' dreams of a safe little farm. Mara drew a lot during down times, sketching pictures of any of the animals she saw. Her brother would write poetry and songs.
When they were staying in a ruined city from bC, they saw billows of dark smoke in the distance. It was a megafauna, destroying buildings and whatever else she couldn't see beneath the tree canopy. Smoke and ash rained from the sky, and the two took shelter until it began to rain heavily, extinguishing any flames. They were both interested in seeing what the megafauna had destroyed that would start fires, so they both set out to find the area.
