Umbrastone

A black star emerged in the blistered sky the day the Old Covenant was ended and the gods became silent.

  Known by many names across many cultures, the Black Star is said to have first appeared at the passing of the Lost Aeon of the Old Covenant, wherein the gods themselves walked the earth and appeared to mankind directly. Now, with the gods silent, and only their emissaries remaining to convey their will to mankind, strife and uncertainty have taken hold. Rival gospels and their prophets divide the nations into feuding factions. Tyrants and mad theocrats brutalize the nations with terror and war. Even the divine emissaries - the Archons, Daemons, Furies, and Devas - find themselves at cross purposes even amongst their own.   The world of Umbrastone is a world of myth and mystery. Kingdoms and empires struggle to avert collapse and rebuild themselves from ruin to glory, to carve new nations from wondrous and terrible new lands, even as ancient terrors threaten from without and political strife corrodes from within. Where the rule of law collapses, the law of the wild brings out the beast in men. All the while, forces from the worlds beyond - the emissaries of the silent gods - watch, manipulate, and emerge among mortals to advance agenda of their own.   Among this world's greatest mysteries are the umbrastones, fragments of pure shadow fallen from the void between the stars.
