Chükan Jungle

The Chükan is dense, impassible, and hostile jungle that splits the northern human realms of Kampura, Gorgogi, and Brött from the Southern Draconic Empire. From a distance, it may seem beautiful, but it is known for swallowing whole trading caravans and even whole armies on occasion. Few survive the trek through the jungle, and those that do are happy enough never to talk about what they have seen within. Based on the very few recorded accounts, members of the Druidic enclave have come up with a list of possible dangers inhabiting the jungle, notably including the incredibly dangerous shambling mound. Some members of the enclave posit that the jungle may not actually be a jungle at all, but more of a strange tropical swamp. The plant life that has been extracted from the Chükan is a mixture of that which might be found in a swamp and that of a true rain forest.   Due to its dangerous nature, the Chükan is mostly uncharted -- the only serious charting expedition to go into the jungle quite famously never returned. However, the boundaries of the jungle are quite well documented, and the jungle appears to be growing quite quickly despite the fact that normal jungles (or swamps for that matter) do not expand at nearly the same rate. The Druidic enclave, worried about the rapid expansion of such a dangerous region, is working at all times on a way to halt the expansion of the jungle, or to at least slow its growth. Various methods have been tried, from advanced magic to simply taking an axe to it. Unfortunately, the magic seemed to have no effect, and there is simply too much jungle to hack it all down. Loggers are also difficult to find for long as they report serious feelings of dread setting in upon getting too close to the tree line.   For now, the only reasonable pass from the northern part of Galzhür to the south is through the Tobu Pass along the eastern coast of the continent. The silver coast is the site of nearly all the trade between the north and south, barring the small amount of trade that weaves in and out of the mountains to the west, which can be nearly as dangerous as traversing the jungle. Tobu Pass is by no means safe, as the poverty of the northern nations means many many bandits, highwaymen, and organized crime syndicates patrol the area. Compared to the neighboring jungle, though, Tobu seems like a beautiful park.   Even this pass is shrouded in mystery as many in the historical community of Ultor believe that the pass itself is as unnatural as its neighbor. It it uncharacteristically low in altitude compared to the rest of the continent, and some of its most iconic sites -- the great barrier cliffs -- seem unnaturally clean cut. It is argued that the pass was actually cut through the jungle by some prior civilization (likely the Morlu) for the explicit purpose of bypassing the jungle.

Geography

Notes from Ramayyad Bosstra, Druid Preserver   Incredibly dense, more than I have ever seen in my life -- and jungles are my specialty!   I've heard that there is some marsh-like terrain inside of the jungle. Fascinating. I've never heard of such a thing, but I would kill for an opportunity to witness such a sight! If only this jungle weren't so damned dangerous. I can feel its magical energy even from here in Savarpresz.   I have far too little to say here.
