The Horned Avians

Known as Horned Avians to some, Corvus Cornibus is a species of black birds known for their unusually low song and strong antlers.

Location

Found solely on The Island of Tod, while there are variant species, most of them prefer to stick to forested areas. Those found around the coast posses a larger wingspan and antlers likely do to the abundance of open space and tendency to travel farther out. Variants in dense wildlife are smaller but with sharper claws, better night vision, and antlers with more protrusions that act as a weapon and a means of self-defense.

Food/Hunting

Omnivores, these avians are hunter-gatherers who prey mainly on small rodent-like creatures and wild berries. Occasionally they are known to go after young reptilians but only when times are scarce. They hunt at different intervals of the day, depending on the variant subspecies and immediate location, most will wait until dusk or dawn.

Housing

These avians enjoy living in abandoned nests and burrows and will hardly make one from scratch.

Socializing

As younglings they are very social, often bonding with peers until they reach adolescence and move away. The parents will only stick around to care for their hatchlings until they possess the ability to walk without tripping or swaying.

Conservation

Coastal Avians have a small population naturally, though some residents leave pre-made houses for them to roost and lay eggs in, conservation for these variants are minimal. The forested variants, however, are regularly hunted in the Eastern Grovesdue to their overabundance and pesky nature. It is the central Avians that are treated more delicately, while more fierce than its cousins, this species is very susceptible to illness brought by foreign travelers. They will begin to interact with the natural residence in search of aid either for themselves or any hatchlings of theirs.

If by some chance you read my old writing you would have seen me mention a creature described as a "horned raven" known as Magiviore. This was the childhood pet of Cantionis from which her skull pendant was created from. This pendant was used in an experiment with the end result being the unnatural and dark shape-shifting creation named after her beloved pet, Importance of Magiviore. While the tool itself can transform into many things, when it is dormant it takes on the form of the skull pendant once more.
