The Frost Monastery

Demographics

While the cold easily bother those who are not born here, the species that call it home are practically created to survive this climate. Thick scales, rough exteriors, fatty physiques fitted with sharp claws and shortened ears make hunting in the cold that much easier. These predators are amongst the most adaptable species out there, with multiple cousin species found in very different terrain across the world.

Industry & Trade

In a place where farming is nearly impossible to do naturally, most of the food comes from hunting, small indoor greenhouses, and trade.   Game is not hard to find, though the bigger it is, the smaller the numbers it can be found in. All game in these parts are covered in thick furs, tough hides, or a combination of the two in order to protect themselves from the climate, these furs and hides are sought after by outsides and those in the war so they are frequently used in trade, but not the meat itself.   Another item frequently used in trade is a form of frost metal that, while fairly common, is hard to obtain in the region. This metal type is used by both sides of the Lieo civil war, with a few sources outside coming for them. When the locals dig into the earth for buildings small ingots and rarely entire ores and found and recovered. Only half of the metal found is used for trade, while the first half is reserved for the villagers to use in tools and equipment, oftentimes mixed in use with the bones of the game that they hunt. Mining for the metal is easy enough, but few can stand the cold levels of the tundra for an extended period of time, and the outsiders come to trade as infrequently as possible.

Architecture

The main buildings are partially carved from the rocky tundra, while houses and other buildings have been almost fully set in the ground as a means to protect against the constant winds, frost, and ice.

Geography

Most of the village buildings are in the valley portion of frozen tundra in the center of a mountain range in Northern Lieo. The large monastery building itself is roughly a kilometer or two away, with the back of the buildings having been carved directly out of the base of the mountain range.
