Heart of the Last World

Unbeknownst to the thriving communities of Ultimus, they are not the first to live and grow among nature and forces within. They are far from it really, with each new incarnation brought new ideas, beliefs, powers, and means of using it. The previous lives were particularly set in their ways, nonstop wars, and harm racked the place with scars in history.
While the reason for this is still largely unknown, many experts felt some unusually powerful disaster swept the place apart. Along with natural destruction, entire cities, and monuments buried, many artifacts that managed to survive are in perfect condition. Surprisingly, despite this little else is known of the ancestors.
One unique detail is that of the Heart of the Last World, a small hollowed boulder with its own ecosystem, but what made it important was two strands and flowers entangled in each other. These flowers cannot be found anywhere else on Ultimus, and previously had never been seen nor mentioned before in previous artifacts.
Strange enough, the Heart went missing only a few weeks after its discovery; no one saw what happened and there is no feasible way to take the Heart in the first place. While the boulder Is hollow it is still a large rock, add in the fact the size and just how attached it is to the ground, it would take some heavy machinery to remove it cleanly.
The Heart was found in a marsh, one so unknown and difficult to reach that very few actually got to see it in person.

It is said the Heart contains the remaining life from the ancestors, and the plants were representations of their final moments.
One story, shared in a small village among one of the many rivers in Southern Union, tells of tragedy between lovers. Starry-eyed and full of puppy-love, one made a sacrifice that the other could not forgive.
