Adopertus Virum

Transmission & Vectors

It is believed that if one is not born with it, then one that has contradicted it got it from open blood contact with someone else who carries it.

Symptoms

When born with the Virus, victims experience the complete loss of multiple senses; the most common are vision and hearing, some have been noted without taste or scent, one unique case experienced a lack of emotions and direction. Those who get the Virus after birth experience one of two things, either they lose one sense completely or they have a decrease in multiple sense rather than a complete loss.

Treatment

Most treatment includes giving those inflicted special technological and psychosocial equipment to fill in or replace the affected sense; such as seeing glasses, hearing aids, and even support animals. Some take a more magical root; like familiars that they can see and hear through, amulets that give the mental stimulation of tastes or smells, and other such routes.   The more desperate allow those that have been inflicted to undergo experiments to find out more about the Virus itself and how it affects the body; one notable instance of this is Cantionis whose aunt was a microbiologist and genetical witch, meaning she studied magic and the effects of it with body types and conditions. She ran a number of experiments on Cantionis in an attempt to give her sight, sound, and a voice for once in her life; within her first few years she came up with a procedure that she believed would return these senses, and they did, to an extent. Though now Cantionis can hear and see and speak with no problems, (she was even a moderately well-known singer), every once in a while her senses will dim and sometimes fizzle out completely for a short period of time and she'll lock herself up to avoid complications.

Hosts & Carriers

In recorded instances of the Virus, no animal has been known to carry it; only citizens of The Island of Tod, old-historic The Halo Empire, City of Mourn, and The Ouv Isles have seen cases of it.

Prevention

In the hopes of preventing a fetus from contracting the Virus, as well as newborns, it is common for mothers to undergo several protection rituals throughout the stages of pregnancy. When a child that is suspected of having the Virus grows older they are given special amulets or sigil tattoo with a special rune inscribed to ward off negative conditions.
The header image depicts Cantionis as a child receiving a blood treatment from her Aunt Meditrina; while Vita the eldest comforts her and Servius the middle child stares into the container of blood treatment. This was one of many experiments Meditrina would conduct in an effort to restore Cantionis' senses.

Author's Notes

Finally, an excuse to talk about the condition that Cantionis has, these inktobers and writer's gauntlet prompts are giving me the excuse to work on concepts I've had in my head for a while!
