Viscountess Osya Adela Character in Uclandia | World Anvil

Viscountess Osya Adela

Osya is small-boned, thin and dark-haired. Her hair is black as the night sky, usually braided out of her way and she has vivid green eyes.   Osya is said to be wise and thoughtful and a cunning negotiator. But she is also said to have a powerfully bad temper when crossed. She is intelligent and well-read with a passion for collecting magical artifacts. She is also rumored to have a large personal library. She claims an interest in “dabbling with herbs for the kitchen, for restorative teas” and is the only female Noble to carry a sword.   She was born into the lower class but somehow charmed a noble who asked her to marry him after only weeks of courting her. Not long after he was rewarded for his role in The War with a gift of land and the title of “Count”, he died in his sleep.   Countess Adela was a favorite among the nobility and made helping the poor in the region her “project”. Her work gained her fame and she was eventually called for an audience with the Emperor and his wife. They asked about her work with the poor and her opinion on how they could raise the living standard of their people. She gave them advice, they acted on it, and soon began to rise in popularity within their realm. They rewarded Osya with a title of her own, Baroness Adela, Lady of Philanthropy, effectively raising her a rank within the Nobility.   When she caught wind of a plot to kidnap the Emperor's wife, and foiled it, she was again rewarded with another rise through the ranks, gaining the title, of Viscountess and an honorary Chief of the Imperial Guard. When she is introduced to others, she is “Viscountess Adela, Chief Imperial Guard and Favored of the Emperor”.   Gradually, a rumor began to take hold that she herself had hatched the plot to kidnap the Emperor’s wife so that she could foil the plot and gain favor at Court. She had, according to speculation, planned all along to ask for a Viscountess title. Further, she had poisoned her husband the Count. The rumor eventually reached the ears of the Emperor and his wife and although they ordered an investigation, no proof could ever be found. The man who had started the rumor originally claimed to know Osya personally, and despite an intensive search, he was never found. When they heard Count Aren in Battlepass was dying, they “rewarded” Osya with her own rule, but it was intended to remove her from Court.   The Viscountess meets Naledi and tries to convince her to be the Court Seer, but Naldei is still resisting the role and tells the Viscountess that the Count tried to win her over as well. Osya smiles and says he did not have her charms. Osya promises Naledi 150 gold pieces every month and Court protection. Naledi laughs a little, says she just wants to read her books and study, but agrees to think about the offer. Osya, certain she’ll have her way, because she always does, issues a proclamation that all her Guard & Runners are to afford Naledi (who comes to be known as the Seer of StagFrost) all the respect of a Noble and thereafter refer to her as “Lady Naledi”.   But will Osya get what she wants most?   Will she one day be Empress over all of Uclandia?
