Life can be hard in Uclandia if you aren't one of the wealthy elite. Naledi Meridian is not.   As our tale begins, she has just been expelled from the Protector's Guild. Through no fault of her own, Naledi has killed a fellow Guild member. To redeem herself, she is ordered to bring the Head of the Guild 20 bear pelts. So she travels north, knowing she’ll find more bears there.   Naledi stumbles across the northern village where her aunt Eri lived and served as Court Seer to the Count. But Eri has died and left her home and extensive library to Naledi. Her first night in Stagfrost Tower, Naledi also inherits her aunt’s power of divining the future. The problem is, she has no idea how to use her gift! But Eri has also left her resources and books to help Naledi learn. As she goes to the Count and proclaims her intention of staying in Stagfrost, he pressures her to follow Eri’s example and become his Court Seer.   After receiving guidance from Eri in a vision and her friend Peregrin, Naledi decides to accept the Count’s offer and is officially named Court Seer.   Naledi must continue to learn how to use her new power, as well as Athrumy so that she can serve Count Aran properly. But she has much to learn about her new home which is full of secret rooms and tunnels.   And a dragon.   Count Aran dies and Viscountess Oseya Adela is sent to rule Banern Province. Naledi recognizes her as the woman who lured her mother away. Oseya doesn’t recognize her. When she was younger, and in between titles and husbands-of-convenience, Oseya befriended Naledi’s mother Damaris. Sometime after they had gotten to know each other better, Oseya manipulated her into an illicit affair.   Damaris left her husband and children for Oseya.   Naledi’s father was heartbroken and inconsolable and eventually threw himself off a waterfall, leaving his daughters alone in the world. The elder sister, Nareese did her best to raise her sister. After gaining the best education her poverty-stricken village could provide, Naledi set out into the world to make her mark. After spending time as a blacksmith's apprentice, she manages dodges a plague and settles somewhere new. She finds the Protector's Guild and does her best to fit in. Until she accidentally kills one of her Guild-Brothers.   The Viscountess raises the taxes of Wintershire, closes the school, and enacts new laws restricting the citizen’s movements, causing a rebellion to form. The Rebellion enlists both Peregrin and Naledi.

Problem is...

Naledi’s visions increasingly show her mother as the origin of Oseya’s cruelty as rumors spread of the Viscountess employing a female Inquisitor that matches the description of Damaris. The new Seer cannot balance these things with her memories of her mother, and as she is forced to accept that her mother has become synonymous with cruelty, she descends into depression.   Can Naledi find the truth behind her visions? Will the Rebellion be successful in overthrowing the cruel Viscountess Oseya Adela? Why are the villagers increasingly calling Naledi the Warrior Seer?
