Fjornandes (city)
The city of Fjornandes sits on the west banks of the Rimeflow River in the northern reaches of the Fjornandes known as the Thanelands. It is rumored to be the most fortified city in for several thousand miles, as the city has never been taken by force.
Government
Fjornandes has a diarchy: a dwarven king and a human king. They have equal power and rule over their own race. Fjornborn children are inspected at birth by the others king's council's Oracles, named the Omids. The Omid will decide the life of the Fjorn: either military or working in the mines or the forges. If the Omid sees any imperfection in the child, it is thrown off a mountain and given back to the Fjords. Fjorn see themselves as divine perfectionists of the gods and always fear for an invasion of any kind from outlanders. The population of slaves is so big in Fjornandes, they outnumber the Fjorn by 5:1. The mass amounts of slaves, called the "Fell", produce a mass amount of wealth for Fjornandes. When each Fjorn male reached adulthood, the city of Fjornandes awarded him an allotment of public farmland, and a contingent of Fell slaves to work on it. The wealth that each farm generated was enough to basically turned every Fjorn citizen into a landed aristocrat. they were so rich that nobody had to work for a living.
When a Fjorn man died, his public allotment of farmland went back to the state, but his private property went to his wife. When a Fjorn woman dies, all her wealth goes equally to the male and female offsprings. This produces a lot of ultra-rich women. These women are referred to as Fjorn Heiresses. The collective wealth of the Fjorn Heiresses dwarfs the wealth of other Fjorn and even the two Fjorn kings.
