The Phobos Caldera

No official name has ever been given to this naturally occuring pit in the surface of the planet.   The feature has the distinction of being the only entry in the Book of Nox that was neither an animal or a plant. Three full pages were devoted to sketches of this crater, as well as frantic writing that has yet to be deciphered.   After the success of his first expedition, Xavron Farrora financed a second expedition with the promised outcome of retracing the steps of Phobos Nox, through the inhospitable lands of Skok.   Dozens of patrons from different nations invested in his expedition and he used the extra funds to finance a small army to accompany the researchers and scientists. The lands of Skok are barren and dangerous on the best of days, and a small group of people might be able to slip through quickly, but Xavron wanted to flaunt his wealth and take all the credit for finding lost treasures.   The Phobos caldera was eventually found after 4 years of fruitless exploration. Th Skok nations paid little mind to the roving army of the Nox expedition.   When the caldera was finally found, the expedition host was utterly destroyed, with only a handful of soldies and even fewer scholars escaping to safety of Truinia.   A large presence of Skok miners, soldiers and equipment was reported at the caldera. The scholars reported that they observed workers descending into the pit, and returning to the surface with loads of ice and rock, almost as if they were actively trying to clear the pit of the remnants of the glacier.

Geography

The Phobos caldera is located nearly 1000 miles north of Truinia. The surrounding mountains and volcanic fields maketraversing the wildlands nearly impossible. The volcano which created the caldera has been extinguished for untold centuries, and evidience of a massive glacier can still be seen, though it has nearly melted completely away, revealing a massive hole, measuring a half a mile in diameter, that plunges deep into the planet. Ice can be seen deep within the hole, so it is impossible to tell just how far the hole reaches, but strange rhythmic humming can be heard if one listens closely.

Fauna & Flora

Flora and Fauna are almost non existent near the crater. Only the most hardy of creatures are able to scrape by, and flora is comprised mostly of lichen and some stunted shrubs. Insects abound, as do some species of crabs, living in the sulfur rich pools that dot the landscape.
