Spear of the People

This title has been awarded less than 100 times since the death of Nibal Zabana, who was the first to hold this revered title.

Although, every Vaviel emperor claims the title for themselves, as a custom, only one emperor since Nibal Zabana has actually been officially granted the title.

Qualifications

The only qualification, required to receive this title, is for the people of the Vaviel Empire to decide that the person is worthy of the title.

Requirements

The requirements are simple, and nearly impossible. One must provide a great service to the people of the Vaviel Empire. As such, the title has been bestowed on people from all walks of life, and even a few who were not even citizens of the Vaviel Empire.

Appointment

At the end of the month, during sunset, people will chant the name of their chosen candidate. It is the duty of the local authorities to transcribe the names that they hear, and store records of all chants. If the emperor calls for records, they must immediately be sent to M'uptoopiik for the Imperial scribes to calculate the frequency of names chanted, as well as the range of particular names. In order to protect the sanctity of the process, all knowledge of current candidates is locked away, until the next time the Emperor calls for the records.
When a candidate passes the threshold for appointment, that person will be invited to attend a ceremonial tour through the empire, ending at the steps of the temple of the Daughter's Heart, where the current emperor will absolve the candidate of all past crimes and transgressions, and annoint them with the will of the people, a custom spear, and a caravan to travel as they wish.

Duties

The Spear of the People, also acts as the only authorized executioner, for the most heinous of political criminals.

Responsibilities

The Spear of the People is free to live out their lives as they wish, though many have made it a custom to use the benefits of their apointment to help the further reaches of the empire, or bring supplies to the most remote villages.

Benefits

If one is apointed the title "Spear of the People" They will have absolute immunity for their actions, and all imperial estabishments must provide whatever provisions are need for the "Spear" or their caravan.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The custom spear that is proveded to each recipient, is something that can take over a year to craft. The most skilled craftsmen in the empire, will bid for the priviliege of crafting the spear, once a candidate has been announced, and they will spend the entirety of the ceremonial tour, crafting and perfecting the spear to capture the essence of the recipient, thus ensuring that no two spears are alike.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Only one person has ever had the title revoked. Emperor Rajat Zabana. Although the title was revoked after his death, the discovery of his treachery caused the people of the Vaviel Empire to forgo the custom for nearly a century, in order to cleans the thought of him from the ceremony.
