Phobos Nox Character in Egrica | World Anvil

Phobos Nox

The Bright Father Phobos Nox

In the centuries that followed the catastrophic destruction of the Untakiaan Empire, and the subsequent tragedies that befell the rest of the planet, the knowledge and power of the Untakiaan race began to fade.   Phobos Nox is widely considered to be last of the Untakiaan's and he dedicated his life to preserving as much information as he could, in order to try and atone for the sins of his ancestors.   Phobos Nox lived and traveled as an unknown vagabond for most of his life. His real name is no longer known, as he prefered that his real name never be uttered in the world his people had destroyed.

The first entry in his journal, now known as the Book of Nox was made when he was in his early teen years, and places the beginning of his travels in the southern Islands of Kaas. If one were to follow the pages of his book, a knowledgeable scholar would be able to trace a fairly accurate path that the young Phobos traveled for the following 60 years.

By the time Phobos Nox had reached the lands of what is now known as Chay A'Chil, he was a well known traveler, and many kings and warlords would invite him to their palaces in exchange for their scholars to learn from him.   Phobos repeatedly refused these invitations with a single phrase,
Extinction does not wait for you to finish dinner.
After leaving the lands of the Chay Dynasties, he was not seen or heard from for almost 40 years, having crossed into the lands of Skok.
Upon his return to the lands of the Egrica Continent, Phobos was a changed man. He became even more secluded, often running from other people who might happen upon him. The few scholars who were able to glimpse his massive tome, reported that he had gone mad during his long absence, spreading tales of horrifying fantasies that he treated as real creatures.

As he drew near to the end of his life, Phobos Nox spent his remaining years within the borders of Shyiq Slein. Hidden within the sunken forests of the hermit kingdom, Phobos was given a grand estate and as many scribes as he could utilize, to dictate all that he had seen and experienced. For while the more "Civilized" nations now viewd Phobos as a mad wanderer, the rulers of Shyiq Sleinand Shyiq Tren were enamored by his tales of fantastical demons and terrifying cultures far beyond thier maps.

As his final will and testament, Phobos Nox bequeathed the entirety of his life's research to the Church of the Wild Flame.
