Citadel of Coin

The Citadel of Coin is the central government building for the Coastal States Alliance. It was commissioned and built to commemorate the independance of the Coastal States from the The Federation.
Initially, the building was meant to be a humble building, offering a simple meeting place for the Leaders of the Coastal States, and the most powerful of the Merchant Families. However, as families and guilds began competing to be the most generous patron for the construction, the size and grandiosity of the building began to spiral out of control. Construction was delayed for nearly 20 years, as discussions and arguments over how each patron's contribution would be commemorated, and who would be portrayed more prominently threw the project into chaos.

The discord threatened to throw the newly formed alliance of nations into war, until Leontios Androu, patriarch of the most powerful merchant family in Mecreau was able to find a way to appease the most powerful of nations and families, and finally begin construction.

While the Citadel retained it's initial goal of providing a meeting place, the scale of the meeting hall was massively updated. Upon completion, the Central hall was able to hold 12,000 people, and the lower floors contained enough offices for over 5000 nobles, wealthy families, merchants and foreign dignitaries to maintain a presence in the building.   Due to the sheer size of the building, it was decided that an artificial island would be constructed in the mouth of the Mecreau River, rather than demolishing a large portion of Mecreau's capital. While many accounts say this was a benevolent decision of the merchant class, it is often noted that the decision wasn't made until after citizens revolted and burnt the docks. The revolts resulted in the loss of indescribable wealth and the deaths of hundreds of patrons of the Citadel.
