Verti Frostheart

Verti Frostheart

Verti Frostheart was a hill dwarf explorer who led an expedition into the infamous Everstorm of Myrall. Most of his fellow travellers returned months later, but he was no longer with them. Foul play was suspected, but they insisted he went off on his own, and the matter was eventually forgotten.

Verti's Journal

4th of Knowledge, Meltwater Archipelago
And so my journey truly begins! While the seas getting here may have been rough, it was nothing to a Frostheart! Now that I have acquired lodging, I must assemble the finest members to join my expedition. I'll need a Goliath guide for certain, but a few other locals would not be unwelcome.
— Verti Frostheart, Expeditionary

12th of Knowledge, Meltwater Archipelago
I've mustered quite the motley crew, I'm proud to report! Not one, but two Goliath guides - a husband and wife, if I'm not mistaken - as well as a skilled Myr snowshifter. I also came across a young human lad named Rami, a fellow Adariite, who had a bit of a knack for magic. His talents will certainly prove useful in the coming weeks.
— Verti Frostheart, Expedition Leader

5th of Artifice, Goliath Trading Post
We're staying the night at one of the Goliath outposts, which is usually as close as most Myr get to the Everstorm. To say I'm enamored with its beauty would be an understatement! The snowshifter cautions me against letting my guard down, but I think her fear is unfounded. I shall uncover the truths of the Everstorm and then all shall know the name of Frostheart!
— Verti Frostheart, Expeditionary Extraordinaire

9th of Artifice, Edge of the Everstorm
Just a brief entry today. Tomorrow we truly enter the storm, and though we may be cold we still burn with excitement! Though actual fire would be nice...Rami's magics at least offer reliable light.
— Verti Frostheart, (Cold) Expedition Leader

16th (?) of Artifice, the Everstorm
I do believe I've miscounted the number of days, but that is far from our most pressing concern at the moment. We've yet to come across anything, and the biting cold makes it difficult to put quill to paper. To make matters worse, we can see a large rolling blizzard headed our way, as if the Everstorm was trying to push us back. The snowshifter said we should head back while we can, but I reprimanded her for such cowardly behavior. Perhaps that's how it's done in Myrall, but we Frosthearts are made of sterner stuff! We shall find the hidden secrets of the Everstorm yet.
— Verti Frostheart, Still Cold

Probably 17th of Artifice, the Everstorm
The snowshifter left in the night. She took only her things and a small share of supplies. I hope she can make it on her own.
— Verti Frostheart, Expedition Leader

Artifice, the Everstorm
Rami and I got into a shouting match today. He thinks we should have gone with the snowshifter, but when I reminded him who was in charge of this expedition he lashed out at me. The Goliaths had to pull us apart. They've been whispering to each other since. I worry they may leave me too.
— Verti Frostheart

Probably Judgement by now
And so I am alone. The Goliath tried to convince me to abandon my search, but I gave them an ultimatum - stay with me or get out of my way. I'm not sure why I thought that would work at the time...perhaps it was unwise. But I will not stray from my course, not when I'm so close! I know I am! I must be!
— Verti

Certainly Judgement
I've found it, but this is certainly the end for me...I've fallen into a crevasse, and though the snow slowed my fall enough to keep me alive, I cannot feel my legs. I dare not look.   But what cruel fate tempts me, for before my eyes stands a monument of indescribable beauty! Truly mortal hands alone could not have carved such elegant stones, nor built them so strong against the ravages of time. Yet I cannot reach it, cannot explore its depths, cannot but dream of what may be inside.
My eyes grow tired, and my hand grows heavy. It seems this is to be my last entry, as a frozen form covered in a blanket of snow. A fitting end for a Frostheart, perhaps.
To whosoever should find this journal, worry not for me, for there is something of far greater value just beside. But if you would do a dead dwarf a favor, just remember this: Verti Frostheart found it first!
— Verti Frostheart, Expeditionary Extraordinaire
A frozen corpse lies half-buried in snow, legs twisted at unnatural angles. A leatherbound book is clutched to its chest, protected from the cold. Beyond the body a large stone archway looms. Strange symbols adorn it, spelling out a single word - SIGIL.

The journal format immediately appealed to me as well as all the small stuff hidden here. The story was well executed and highly enjoyable! Very good job.
