Adoption
Adoption is legally enshrined in Madara, and the rights of adopted children do not fall, legally-speaking, from those of children of the blood. This law extends to all social classes, right up to the royal lines.
Generally orphan children are the ones adopted, although couples without children might adopt a niece or nephew, or other distant relation, for purposes of inheritance. Because of its role in estate law, traditionally adoption has taken place strictly within class constraints. In rural areas, adoption often takes place informally in the aftermath of an epidemic illness or natural disaster.
