Whispers in the dark is a column in the yearly updates of the Marketing Company 'The Illusion'. Where interns get to get creative and showcase their skills given a bizarre set of famous circumstances.
Also, it is one of the names of the people who make up a certain secret group.
There are many names that make up the group as every member has their own name for the group, the only identifying feature of the group is a logo that is changed yearly. Other member's names include: The Organisation; The Illusion; Those Ones; Shadows in the Dark; Shadow Organisation; Passing Time; Magic Phoenix; Magi-dom Fighters; Chaos Bringers; and the One Magic.
From The Underground Whispers in the Dark has many companies they can slither into (as many companies are often headed by Dwarves with headquarters and factories in the Underground, and their many branch offices and marketplaces in the Human cities). They often deal with Magic Moss and person experimentation.
Second level leadership of the group is run by a Mermaid (one of the ones who help to weave the mists and has contact with the prisoners) and a couple of Fairies, Gretel Eyles and Spike Eyles. The Mermaid provides cover to anyone suspecting the Prince's Aide as there has been clashing between Dark Elves and Mermaids for the last few hundred years, so no one would suspect a Mermaid teaming up with a Dark Elf. And the Fairies are thought to be dead already (and now live in the Underground and thus provide contact with with the Dark Elves).
Candula is a Dark Elf (possibly some Dwarven recently mixed in from a parent or grandparent). She is somewhere on the bottom half of the ranks, part of the supply chain liaison crew, sourcing resources for the corporation she works within (be it requested by the corporation or Whispers in the Dark).
Tinnow (Jade's uncle) is also part of the lower ranks - though he does purposely distance himself a bit. He acts within a specific medical research company in North City. It is a research station assigned to a hospital that was modelled after the Healing Hut.
Trixie runs the Destill across from The Illusion, and is a major player in bringing Magical Moss research and participants in through her interest in spics and fake spice.
Annabelle is on the lowest level of the actual Whispers in the Dark organisation (not just a person used by their organisation, though that is how it started).
As the organisation grew, they somewhat steered away from the Prince's Aide's leadership and specified their goal tohaving domination of all magic in the world of Turien (and possibly the magic of all the other Realms as well). Well, going to other Realms will allow them to harness Forbidden magic, though a lot of that is only in the Chronos. To be able to bring that out again, they would need a power like the twinnish nymphs have (but it is a long while until they exist). To use all the magic in Turien (possibly creating a superior 'one magic') is in order to not be underneath the Council (and not have Forbidden applied to them ever again).Eclern
East-City's Logging Facility
within East City's Logging Facility, there is a secret laboratory (where Scientist Kels worked at during the Fairy incident)
The next laboratory Scientist Kels works at
Annabelle's father's Mermaid products distribution company
The Healing Hut
Whoever Jade's parents used to work for
Tinnow's company he works for (medical research)
Reagan (well, they try to work with him, more often they just steal things as they get poisoned by Hoen) However, could Reagan's disappearance be their doing?
Human Government; Dwarven government; Dark Elf government
Even their own headquarters in Belacoushe is a separate company. Specifically, a marketing company named 'The Illusion' (yes, it is also one of the names of Whispers in the Dark). Every year they get their interns to design a logo for an event that happened in the previous year (that only members in the organisation would know was actually somehow caused by or interfered with by them). Some years it does cause problems, especially the year of the 'tent'-eyed octopus' (the intern also only knew an octopus as an underwater spider). So imagine having to draw that in the dirt every time you were in conversation with another member.
The Council is interested in the classroom paving a way for the future. Although Whispers of the Dark often steer clear of large Council interest projects, this one is a turning point in Turien, and they want to be on top when the changes happen.
People:
Initially headed up by Dark Elf Prince (Callum's deceased elder brother - Gregor King)'s Aide from Delusional Isle, after the Prince died. Now the Aide thinks he has Prince Gregor's spirit in him - it's only due to the mists though (whether it be deluding his mind or deluding the Prince's spirit to share his body). How it startedWhy the experimentation branch started: Bedore the capture of the Prince and his Aide, the Prince was sickly. Wasn't too bad to start with, but it was regarding his body quicker and quicker as the years went by. The Aide was in league with a Dwarf doctor trying to cure the illness. It was odd for a magical race to have an incurable illness that wasn't the Feared Medical Condition, yet it was so. So, they started to experiment, leaving out morality. Magic Moss was just the start. They looked for ways to lengthen lifespans by stealing others. A number of magics that are now Forbidden were used in the process. And a number of very close to Forbidden magics were also used. It wasn't until they tried to steal from the Council's sky hall that they were caught. The Human was killed and the Prince and his Aide were sent to Delusional Isle.
Goals:
Initially, the Prince's Aide wanted to simply cause chaos. The Prince wasn't that bad to end up in Delusional Isle - unless there was some Council politics involved. The Fairies joined in as this was the only way they were able to invent and create a lot of the things they desire (without restraint nor war). They have also helped to upkeep the Chronos. As the organisation grew, they somewhat steered away from the Prince's Aide's leadership and specified their goal tohaving domination of all magic in the world of Turien (and possibly the magic of all the other Realms as well). Interest in the All-Races Classroom:
Having Annabelle in the classroom gives Whispers of the Dark a unique access to the classroom. There are interested in the access to many kids with racial magic mixes (especially Jade Holmes) thus they can experiment on taming ones magic in the body of another race etc.The Council is interested in the classroom paving a way for the future. Although Whispers of the Dark often steer clear of large Council interest projects, this one is a turning point in Turien, and they want to be on top when the changes happen.
Public Agenda
They don't exist.
Ethics
Not really a thing. If a all magic can be utilised, perchance a single, more powerful magic could be created. In which case, the ethics of the world may change anyways.
Saying so, keep to the general ethics of the company you are in so as to have them take the fall when The Council gets suspicious.
The Creator gave us magic, let us show him our thanks by using it.
Alternative Names
Each member has their own name for the organisation.

2. Utilise anything
3. All [information] on magic and racial attributes are to be headed back to headquarters (via branch or direct). Yet in a way that keeps in line with 1.
