The Watch

The Watch is a sect of Elves that foremost believe that the Creator made Fairies a cut above the rest. Queen Martha, the first Elven Queen, instigated The Watch. The Fairies were low in number, thus only a single Watcher was needed. Their role was to watch over the Fairies and make sure no harm came to them. For the Fairies were the favoured messengers of the Creator, and the Elves were the ones to watch over the races to make sure they did not do anything stupid.   As the races grew in number, The Watch also grew. The head of The Watch stayed in the royal family, generally through the Queen or Princess. Members of The Watch either actively wander the Great Forest that surrounds the Density or set themselves in positions where they may meet a Fairy, in order to keep the Fairies words as law within their role (for example, in forest hospitals or the prison tower where a Fairy's magical expertise may be needed).   A segment of The Watch caters to dealing punishments to those who disregard or desecrate Fairies. Some deal in assassination and mutilation. Some take away the desecrator's family or possessions. Some just send them to the Punishment Tower (getting them in through the workers at the Tower who are also in The Watch).   The Watch is almost a secret sect. Many Elves know of them, even if they aren't a part of The Watch. Even some Elven kings have no idea of the extent of the organisation. Many peoples of other races do not know The Watch as an organisation - they just know that there are a bunch of 'crazy Elves fanatic about Fairies'.   As of Year 38 of the Century of the Nymphs, 26th Cycle, Princess Quin-Abria Asture, the first princess of the Elven Kingdom is the appointed head of The Watch.
