Mimi Lakes will be back again this year! I had so much fun writing about the world of Turien from her perspective as a Knowledge Liaison Officer and the people she interacts with that I will be continuing their story. And maybe organising the articles better so that the story can actually be seen.

I am also considering writing from a few other characters perspectives, such as Almeta Bearach (who also needs a character article). I was thinking about Turtle Island and had a thought cross my mind: what if it isn't just a large rock filled with turtles and an escapee invisible mermaid? What if there's a magical bubble that Almeta goes to train in for 100 hundred years ... Aaaand I'm going to wait for July to flesh out such thoughs :P

Since last year, Mimi's KLO Supervisor has recieved a name: Sonni. So she will be back, as well as Taegrin, Reagan, Mimi's The City of the Depths Lecturer and others.

There are also some articles I want to write up for GoT and Realm-R.

But, most importantly, I will be having fun! SummerCamp is one of the highlights of my year, and I am so excited.

Power

I like character-focused stories and am aiming to write more about character interactions, so I'm likely to write more about power dynamics between characters than differing organisations. Even if I write about different organisations, I'm likely to write about their structures between characters within the organisations, or demonstrate the feelings between organisations by highlighting the feelings between characters to each other, from the differing organisations.

Almeta Bearach and his sister, Jazzach, a Northern Warrior Mermaid Elder

There are 3 key power dynamics between the siblings that I can play with:

1. Jazzach is an Elder, while Almeta is an average citizen
2. Jazzach is not only his older sister, but a parental figure who has looked after him since their parents died, many years ago
3. Almeta has recent ownership of an Artifact, thus, he is to be respected as a warrior on equal terms with Jazzach

I have some ideas with these two - but I'm not sold on anything yet.

• Do they have a romantic relationship while Almeta is away in isolated training?
• Do they pretned to live together as a spy mission?
• Or will I simply use them to show the caution between those with the Council's trust and those still in training?

META

Since writing the META for Turien, Turien has evolved from just being the world behind my webnovel 'The Adventures of a Magical Teacher' to a world where my webnovel is just one of the things that takes places within Turien. As such, the META does need updating. I didn't have too much in there anyways - I am a pantser and so don't like adding too much planning beforehand, but now I have more in the world I can probably add more to it. Don't know if any of it makes sense, but if it gets me thinking a little bit more, then it's useful, right?

Motivation for building the world: What I had

I am writing a web novel. But I have also used (& will use again) this world as a group writing challenge. I also have a number of short stories within Turien.

What I have now

The world of Turien starte out as the backdrop of my started webnovel 'Adventures of a Magival Teacher'. Since then, it has grown. More than just worldbuilding it is a world that I explore.

There are six races that each have certain values, magics and differences (making up their unique cultures) that I am exploring.

I am initially writing this for my own fun and allowing myself to learn and grow my own creativity.
Turien is the world my webnovel is based in, so there will end up being my ideas and thoughts on what differences can be done to the education system, and how it can benefits students as individuals, in particular the neurodivergent.
So, eventually, I hope to show an audience an entertaining exploration of what could be.

Frontier

Turtle Island

I'm just excited to write about turtles and their home... The island started as a thought that went something like "There's no turtles in this world. I'm not gonna have a tiny island made out of turtles in the middle of the unused part of the ocean - now I've thought it ... And its not leaving my brain." Then came a mermaid who would lay above the water on turtle island, invisible, to excape from her duties. And that's all I have so far.

So, I will be writing about why all the turtles of Turien live in one space and whether there is any mass of land or coral or something there - or just turtles chilling on top of each other.

Also, why is that part of the ocean unused? Is it just because it isn't close to the landmass of Turien, or is there more to this watery frontier?

The Badlands

There are hills where the Dragon-kin live and they separate the Badlands and the plains of Turien from each other. Harpies live close to these hills, just inside the badlands. The rest of the badlands are generally unlivable due to previous wars wrecking the area. So could there be new life sprouting after hundreds of years? Maybe I shouldn't send a Naiad to see what's happening - unless, there's something else she needs to investigate there...

Realm of Turien

So, there have been a small number of characters over the centuries that have either been able to see outside of Turien's Realm, leave the Realm, or have been brought into the Realm. I have not yet explored much about this - but I do know a couple of Fairies that created a decent amount of technology after seeing into other Realms.

Communication

Dialect &/or vernacular

Basically, everyone speaks the same language but as the races (or sections of races) have often been secluded from each other, as well as having differnent environments, there would at least be different phrases and exclaimations to explore. Metaphores and similes might be different. Something to explore at least.

And then there are Fairies. They are the most secluded of each of the races, and their language is the most different from everyone else as they speak in a mix of sound, sign and telepathy.

However, I probably need to think abuot how Mermaids and Naiads communicate under the water as well ...

What is the mailing system like between races? Or between land and sea?

Secret Codes

I wrote about The Code in a previous Summer Camp, but the world has ... been more built? since then. Plus, other codes don't need to be entire languages, but a couple of signals for meet-ups or formulas using the existing language. How were war plans conveyed to the right people?
