Chad Eyles
Chad Eyles (a.k.a. Wandering Fairy)
As the only son of Spike and Gretel, Chad grew up often unattended. He does have an older sister, but she was already married and pregnant by the time he was born so had little to do with him. Spike and Gretel had the ability to see into other realms when they clasped each other's hands. They publicised this ability and were therefore often taken across the country of Turien. They left Chad in the Density, to be raised by all the Fairies that lived there. Normally, this would be fine. But Chad was not normal to begin with.
While other Fairies were born with the appearance of a seed to become their source tree, Chad was born with the appearance of a Dryad. She, Daphne, became his source tree. She grew up slower than other Dryad's and with less interaction with them, just as Chad had less interaction with the Fairies. They relied on each other. Such a pairing had not occurred in the known history of Turien, and thus many eyes watched them. This only exacerbated their low social skills. However, Daphne could not relieve Chad of his societal loneliness, especially as she had duties to do as a source tree. Every ten years, for five years, Daphne had to hibernate in order to regulate the source tree magic that would allow Chad, and herself, to live forever.
So while the Fairies inadvertently studied him, the other races were curious to meet a Fairy. And he grabbed a hold of their curiosity, using it to get to know a variety of peoples in Turien. As he met more people and got involved with them, his curiosity began to grow. Before his first child was born, a Magic War occurred along with the news that his parents died in the same war. He didn't know how to process this; his partner expected him to be upset. But he wasn't. So he left.
As long as they don't expect (assume) things of him, Chad can get along well with many women of any race. And get along well he has, to the point of being the only Fairy in known history to have had mixed-race children of every pairing possible (to a Fairy).
To wander so often and for so long as he does is already strange for a Fairy. Some wonder if he really is a Fairy. And given the abnormal abilities his children are often found with, many others agree.
