Sky Carriage
A sky carriage is a carriage meant for aerial transportation of people and goods. Sky carriages are often larger than regular carriage and are shaped more aerodynamically. They can travel up to 5 times the distance of a regular (horse drawn) carriage per hour. Some carriages can carry up to 20 passengers.
Wyverns are the most common creatures to pull sky carriages as they are widely kept, bred and trained. Hence the nickname "sky horses". The costs of sky carriages are higher than regular carriages largely due to how expensive well-trained wyverns are. Owning a sky carriage is therefore a luxury only the rich can afford. For intercontinental travel and travel through the The In-Between, services are available that sell passage on sky carriages between most major sky ports.
Propulsion
Sky carriages are propelled forward by domesticated airborne creatures. The number of required creatures depends on the carriage size and number of passengers. A general rule is that one wyvern is required for every two passengers.
Weapons & Armament
Most sky carriages are not equipped with weapons. Mages are sometimes to guide a carriage through storms or hostile airspaces.
Communication Tools & Systems
Most sky ports are equipped with a permanent unique rune combination. Carriages can be equipped with a navigational system where the unique combination of the desired destination can be set. The system will create a subtle magnetic link to the destination sky port that can be picked up by a well-trained wyvern. If this wyvern is positioned in the front of the pack, it can lead the carriage to the desired destination without the need for a pilot.
Hangars & docked vessels
Wyverns are kept in stables and, once on land, carriages can be parked like regular carriages.
