Head guard

The rank of head guard is a prestigious title amonst members of the Royal Guard. Generally one head guard is installed per station. The main responsibility of a head guard is to keep order within the domain of their station.

Requirements

Good to very good trades during their years of training at the royal guard academy, as well as a few years of service. When these conditions are met and there is a vacancy for the position, an aspiring guard may write a letter to the royals that finance the station. Those selected will be invited to visit the royal household for an interview about the position. A personal connection with the fincancers is as important as the right qualifications and personality traits as the head guard will be closely working toghether with them. Preferable personality traits of a head guard include affinity for leadership, ability to convey thoughts on paper, courage and fairness. Though it is not an official requirement, head guards tend to be of the same race as the majority of commonfolk in the area, to avoid racial quabbles and insubordination.

Responsibilities

Henrick Moss is head guard in Ecton. His typical day starts with a morning walk. Though his lodging is located in the same building as the rest of the guards and the station, he enjoys the morning air, getting a feel of the day, preparing his speech and getting a hearing of the local news. He makes sure to be back at the station before the night shift is finished to hear about any incidents. At the beginning of the day shift he gives a speech and goes over any anticipated troubles the day. The rest of his day is filled with writing reports for the local nobles. Intermittent meetings might be scheduled by his assistant with guild members or to testify in the local court of justice.
