Repun Kamui

Orca Lord of the Sea

Summary

Repun Kamui is the great Orca God of the Seas featured heavily in Ainu mythology. They are portrayed as a benevolent, easygoing god who often favors their followers with gifts. Although often appearing in the form of a beautiful woman, just as many references to Repun Kamui portray them in the masculine. Their claimed title is Lord, not Lady, of the sea.   Although not recognized by the Amatsukami of Takamagahara, Repun Kamui is a very powerful deity in their own right. With the dominance of Japanese culture, they have come to take on the role of cultural protector in addition to their other domains. To many worshipers, Repun Kamui represents not only power and prosperity, but a symbol of communal identity. The god's worship is most common, therefore, anywhere clusters of Ainu culture have survived; particularly in seafront communities or harbor towns.   When met in person, Repun Kamui is easygoing and casual. They do not often appear to their followers, and are usually in disguise as an Ainu priest or a great orca whale when they do. Although Repun Kamui might claim that this is so that their followers don't take them for granted, in truth it's at least as much because they don't like the formality that comes of appearing in godly form. This laid-back attitude and a certain propensity for drink often leads to other deities looking down upon Repun Kamui. Izanagi-no-Mikoto, chief of the Amatsukami, knows the truth, however, and watches the Orca Lord of the Sea's movements carefully.

Temple Bonuses

A land with a temple to Repun Kamui finds its harvests bountiful and its people happy. This is especially true in settlements close to the sea, where the ancient Kamui's domain is strongest. At higher levels, the old ways of the Ainu people begin to resurface and the population becomes more resilient against outside influence.   Level 1: +1 to the province's Temple bonus toward Prosperity. This bonus increases to +2 if the province contains an oceanic coastline.
Level 2: All allies and subjects of the province's leader gain a +40 bonus while within the territory to resist any effects which would modify their form or behavior against their will.
Level 3: The above bonus increases to +80. In addition, rifts to other planes cannot open in the province, including by spells like Tear the Veil.

List of Blessings

Sea's Bounty: The presence of Repun Kamui's blessed causes shoals of fish to swarm in the seas and the soil to grow more fertile. Any province in which the holder of this blessing holds a permanent assignment, such as Bugyō or Trademaster, gains a +1 Temple bonus to Prosperity. This bonus increases to +2 if the province contains an oceanic coastline.

Cost: 5 | Requirements: Elan 20   Oceanic Empathy: The denizens of the sea delight in an opportunity to please their Orca Lord. All such creatures treat Repun Kamui's blessed as one of them. As such, the holder of this blessing need not fear the mundane predators of the sea. Animals native to the ocean (not Monsters or Generals) treat the holder of this blessing like a friend. They will render what aid they can if a method of communication can be established, and will not attack the blessed unless coerced.
Cost: 5 | Requirements: Elan 30   Lord of Water (Minor): The power of the seas flows through the veins of those blessed by the Orca Lord of the Oceans. The holder of this blessing gains the ability to cast any spell from the Water list up to level 20, optionally using their Attack, Defense, or Psychic Projection abilities in place of Magic Projection where applicable. In addition, the blessed gains a pool of Zeon equal to their total Elan level with Repun Kamui times 100. This innate defiance applies not just to outside cultures, but things truly outside of this plane. The blessed gains a bonus equal to half of their total Elan level with Repun Kamui to resist any supernatural effect which would modify their form or behavior against their will. If the source of a resisted effect is a being not native to the plane of Earth, this bonus is equal to the holder's full Elan level instead.
Cost: 15 | Requirements: Elan 70   Lord of Water (Major): Repun Kamui's power, expressed through the holder of this blessing, continues to grow toward its true potential. The benefits granted by Lord of Water (Lesser) improve to Level 60 and +3 Additional Effects (if applicable).
Cost: 10 | Requirements: Elan 80, Lord of Water (Lesser)   Purge Outside Influence: The resistance to foreign influences bestowed by Repun Kamui grows stronger, now able to purge their presence entirely. The holder of this blessing gains a Banish score equal to the highest of their Attack, Psychic Projection, or Magical Projection for as long as they hold it. If the blessed has developed the Lord of Water (Minor) blessing, they may use the pool of Zeon granted by that blessing to fuel this ability.
Cost: 15 | Requirements: Elan 90, Resist Outside Influence   True Lord of the Seas: The holder of this blessing truly becomes Repun Kamui's Champion, gaining dominion over the seas and a truly unbreakable spirit. The benefits granted by Lord of Water (Major) increase to Level 80 and +4 Additional Effects (if applicable) and the Zeon pool granted by that ability doubles to twice the holder's total Elan with Repun Kamui times 100. In addition, so long as they remain on the plane of Earth, the Champion's soul cannot be destroyed by any means.
