The Twilight of Two Sunsets
In the final years of the Strife, Aulette conquered swathes of land in Southern Jia. They have maintained control of this area in decades since the end of the wars. Southern Jia has never ceded their land but Aulette was clever in their subversion of the treaties, filling Southern Jia with Aulan nationals, allowing them to keep the land after the war.
On the night of the 17th of Mira 1417, members of the Zhengyi order coordinated a series of bombings on Aulan ships and buildings as the sun passed behind the horizon. 19 of the 26 bombs were successfully detonated, sinking four Aulan vessels, destroying a bank, a police station, and a stable. 102 people died in the bombings.
The attacks were a success for the Zhengyi it seemed, but as the smoke cleared an armada of Aulan ships pulled into the port of New Garceau. The ships had been heading for Qalea as ambassadors but the sound of the explosions carried across the water and they turned their sails for the port. The armada landed and slaughtered hundreds of Jia people, most of them completely unaware of the bombing plan. Anyone with as much as a fifth cousin who had ties to the Zhengyi were rounded up in the following months, many of them shipped of to labour in prison camps in New Vandelle.
