Maulan, Mountain

The semi-nomadic mountain maulans are especially notorious among their kin for their reputation as thieves and scoundrels, although in truth it is only a minority that take advantage of their natural climbing ability to take up burglary, whereas most mountain maulans are no more prone to criminality than any other race. As their name indicates, they are typically found around hilly or mountainous regions although they don’t tend to stay put for long and even in those rare instances it rarely lasts more than a few generations before they move on (willingly or otherwise).

• Ability Scores: Mountain maulans are sharp of mind and much more sensible than their common cousin but their nomadic tendencies have resulted in much more insular, sometimes even xenophobic behaviour. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence and -2 Charisma. This racial trait replaces the normal maulan Ability Score modifiers.
• Climb: Mountain maulans have a climb speed of 20 feet and gain the +8 racial bonus on Climb checks that a climb speed normally grants. This racial trait replaces Survivor.
• Leaper: Mountain maulans are always considered to have a running start when making Acrobatics checks to jump. This racial trait replaces Skilled Climber.
• Mountain Strider: Mountain maulans are immune to altitude sickness and do not lose their Dexterity bonus to AC when making acrobatics checks to cross narrow or slippery surfaces. This racial trait replaces the racial bonus to Acrobatics from Innate Balance.
