Blacksmiths of the Realm of Metal
Career
Qualifications
An aspiring blacksmith must apprentice to more experienced blacksmith. This is true across the Realms. Beyond trying one needs the ability to work hard. Strength may seem like a necessary attribute but endurance is more important. A thousand blows can do the work one can not.
Career Progression
In any area that is under civilized law, the various Blacksmithing Guilds of the Realm of Metal create the hiearchy of progression. While it can be said that a title has little bearing on the skill of any one smith it does often come with other perks, such as being able to charge more for their work. Most guilds follow the idea of Apprentice, Journeyman, Master, Grand Master. The names may vary but the structure is much the same. One must pass a guild test to raise to the next level.
Payment & Reimbursement
Payment most frequently comes in the form of wooden coins on the Realm of Metal. It is the local currency because of the relative rarity of wood on the realm. Such things trip up visitors frequently as they come carrying gold to find it nearly worthless on this realm. Blacksmiths are no different. Most do not make use of wooden handles for this reason and spears are not frequently made. Instead leather makes up most handles.
Other Benefits
As with any career, monetary gain is the primary benifit. It is a way to guarentee your livelihood

Demand
Blacksmithing is at a higher demand in the Realm of Metal than in any other realm. Most notably is because almost all buildings are made mostly of metal as it is the most abundant material and most readily available.
