Warden of Shaon Rank/Title in Tremanac | World Anvil

Warden of Shaon

An honourary title bestowed by the Earl of Shaon on a civilian who has demonstrated bravery and skill in defending people within Shaon's sphere of influence.

Requirements

This title is only granted to those who have by force of arms or magic prevented harm from coming to people in the Earl's domain.  In addition to a successful brave act the recipient must have shown a willingness to continue to act in this way, and must not have acted to gain a profit.  The first Earl was extremely cautious in handing out this title and would ask his longtime friend and colleague, the royal diviner Virris to use magic to review the actions of a potential recipient.  Dass' successor has continued this caution and the title has been awarded very few times since it was created.

Benefits

When this title is awarded the recipient will be presented with a new set of finely crafted weapons and armour that display the crest of Shaon.  The recipient has a choice of the type of weapons and armour as they are designed to be used rather than being ceremoniall.   Recipients also have a right to guest at the Earl's castle or any military outpost that reports to Shaon.   A badge bearing the crest of Shaon and an image of the Warden's watchful helm may be added to a tunic or cloak for formal occasions.   While not a formal rank of nobility, Wardens are typically placed alongside Barons should they have cause to visit either the Royal or Ducal courts.

History

Created by Dass Argentiss with the permission of his majesty King Julian Greth in 191, this title was intended to recognise those who have made a significant contribution to the defence of Shaon and it's surroundings while not being a part of the army.  The first recepient was a member of Dass' former adventuring group - Frostburn company.  Since then the title has been awarded 13 times.
