Voikorok Sap

The sap of the Voikorok tree is prized by the inhabitants of the Savage Lands for it's ability to meld together pieces of wood.

History & Usage

Everyday use

The primary use for the sap is the repair of wooden goods, as it can be used to fuse together two pieces of wood. This can allow for the repair of anything from a bow to a table. The wood that is joined doesn't have to be of the same type which allows it replace glue, creating a much stronger bond as the two (or more) pieces will become a single piece. This has led to the creation of superior bows, though the cost of the sap tends to make them prohibitively expense.   Amongst hobgoblins the primary use for the sap is in the creation and repair of Drapheb Voiks.

Refinement

The sap is difficult to collect as it starts to lose it's potency and turn from liquid into a powder when it comes in contact with air. The most reliable method found for extracting it is to freeze the tree down to the point where the sap solidifies. This will kill the tree, but if the solid sap is recovered before it melts then it will retain it's properties. Mixing the collected sap with a tincture made from the bark of the tree and roots of the thickthorn bush allows it to be made into a paste which will retain the sap's potency for up to 6 months.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Wood is scarce in the Savage Lands so those who have wooden onjects like being able to have them repaired. This has led to a large market in the refined sap, though those who collect and prepare primarily want it for their own use. However, there are some tribes who owe a good portion of their wealth to shrews trading in this substance.   It is also in very high demand in the southern lands, such as the Kingdom of Caresnas, the Ancient Kingdom of the Forest, and even the Magrannor Halls, though these lands do tax the purchase of it quite heavily, and buying it from the wrong person can lead to arrest.
