Prayer of Regeneration

A dwarven ritual performed by the Voices of Wisdom to regrow or replace lost or damaged limbs and organs.

Execution

The ritual is conducted in a large chamber adjacent to the Hall of Echoes. In the centre of the chamber is a ritual circle. The circle and runes are cut into the stone floor and filled with silver. Around the edges of the chamber are four forges. The day before the ritual is due to be performed acolytes will spend hours polishing the silver of the circle and carry in supplies for the forges. While they work the Voice who is overseeing the ritual will walk among them chanting in Ak’tah’ya.   On the day of the ritual those who are receiving healing are brought ot the chamber by the Voice. They are told of the pain they will experience and are asked whether they still wish to go through with it. Sometimes this leads to the ritual being cancelled but most of the time the recipients have no wish to turn down the exceptional honour they have been given in being offered this healing. If the ritual is cancelled then it does lead to the waste of all of the fuel that was used to get the forges up and running being those being healed arrive.   The Voice will then lead the recipients to the centre of the circle and begin the main part of the ritual. 8 clerics stationed around the circle will begin chanting a prayer in dwarven while the Voice adds their own chant in Ak'tah'ya. Around the edges of the chamber more clerics and their assistants will begin the process of forging an item. The exact item is unimportant though most prefer to create something related to the profession of the ones being healed. The sounds of hammering and the chants overlap and reinforce each other as the timing of words and strikes aligns. As the tempo of both increases the Voice at the centre of the circle begins to direct the energies of the prayers of word and deed into the healing.   The healing itself is incredibly painful for the recipients as flesh and bone are grown and nerves are reattached. Many recipients prefer to be drunk during this, and it is not uncommon for the recipient to pass out or scream in pain during the hour or so that it can take to heal their broken body. Once the healing is complete the Voice will bring the chanting and ritual to a close. Those working the forges will finish their items in their own time.

Observance

This ritual is offered to those who have performed a great service for church or clan. As it can only be led by a Voice it requires significant influence to be able to request the ritual if the Voices aren't already inclined to perform it. While the ritual requires a significant expenditure in terms of materials for the forges and time from the clerics it is possible for those without great power to contribute to or even lead the ritual.

Prayer of Deed
While many churches make use of words in their prayers, the clerics of the soulforger believe that crafting can itself be a prayer. Crafting is after all one of the highest commandments of their deity, so many dwarven rituals incorporate some form of crafting. In the case of this ritual, it requires so much divine magical energy that four separate prayers of deed are need to be able to channel it.
