221 / 04 / 11 - Sentence passed on accomplices
Yesterday two criminals have appeared in court charged with aiding a group of murderers known as the Chimera Crew. The two accused come from quite different backgrounds, with one being a healer at the Mallory centre and the other being an apprentice to the Chimera Crew's poison maker.
The healer, a gnome named Himinimim Theseuses Humperdink, has served at the Mallory for many decades and was accounted a hero during the recent nights of terror. However in recent weeks his behaviour had become erratic and he had taken to sneaking around parts of Chirin at night. This strange behaviour culminated in him abandoning his healing duties for several days and breaking into a warehouse in East Bank. When the warehoues workers detained Healer Humperdink in order to hand him over to the patrol the Chimera Crew launched an attack on the warehouse, killing many of the workers before ransacking the place. When the Patrol arrived to apprehend these criminals the patrollers were attacked and murdered in the street. When Himinimim was questioned about the incident he claimed not to have th seen the groups faces and that he didn't know who they were, despite one of the Chimera Crew also working at the Mallory Centre. Statements from the warehouse workers and those who live near the warehouse proved this was a lie, and eventually Himinimim was persuaded to tell the truth about the attackers. This attempt to deceive the patrol was added to the list of charges against Himinimim, which already included tresspass and damage to property. When considering Himinimim's case the judges also took into account his refusual to reveal why he had been snaking around town or why he had broken in to the warehouse. Taking this into account several severe punishments were considered by the judges, but they also took note of Himinimim's value as a healer when arriving at their judgement. He was therefore ordered to personally pay a substantial fine and t obecome a healer serving the outer guard and the council for the next 10 years.
The second person on trial was a shifter named Bovin of Powec, who worked as an apprentice for Lindon Silversmith, mixing various forms of poison used for dealing with rats and other vermin. Lindon Silversmith is the chief suspet in the murder of the patrollers and had ordered his apprentice to lie about when the Chimera Crew had left town in order to avoid suspicion for the murder. As a loyal apprentice Bovin lied about the date the group had left, not realising that he was helping them to evade justice. With numerous other eye witnesses confirming the Chimera Crew's presence in town on the 20th it became impossible for Bovin to maintain this lie and he eventually confessed to misleading the patrol. Although his actions were done out of loyalty to his master and without knowledge of the seriousness of the crime, the judges felt that too much leniency might make others tempted to mislead the patrol. Bovin was therefore banished from Chirin with only the clothes on his back and 5 copper pieces.
The true culprits behind the murders, the Chimera Crew, have still not been caught and it is thought that they must have left Chirin by boat. There is a reward of 20 gold pieces for the capture of the group, though the patrol do warn that these are highly dangerous individuals and that only experienced bounty hunters shouls attempt to bring them in.
