Boom Cart

A boom cart is a steel grafted wagon that houses vast quantities of small explosives used for temporary lighting within the Yellowstone Plane.

Operation

The Yellowstone Plane is notorious for its completely hollow and dark cavern, where no source of natural light can penetrate the level. The only viable light source within the plane is a pale type of sand that glows when pressure is applied or a grain of sand is in movement. Sifting the glowing sand only emits low levels of light and will return to its dormant state when still.   To tackle this frustrating endeavor. Field researchers over at The Klementine Company began developing inventions to tackle this specific problem. The result is the boom cart.   Its primary use is to allow researchers within The Yellowstone Plane to see the terrain for a temporary time, similar to a flare. The cart is a reinforced steel wagon that can be pushed by hand or pulled by work mules. The main body of the cart is surrounded by steel sheets forming a cage around the vehicle, this is to maintain shape and withstand blasting impact from the explosives the cart holds. The cart's entire inventory is full of varieties of explosives, most commonly dynamite which can be lit on command using a fuse wire.   When detonated, the explosion creates a shockwave that shifts the sand around the cart, reaching a shock radius of half a klick (1600ft/500m). As a result, the surrounding area is temporarily lit up from the glowing sand and allows researchers and cartographers a faster method to map out the plane.   Accompanying most map runs would be a wagon train between two to six boom carts, all spaced far to ensure safety in case of any premature detonations.   After detonations, boom carts are either left behind to be used as a landmark in expeditions or often returned back to Outpost Bessie or Outpost Cadence to be repaired and resupplied if no warping or hefty damage has affected the cart.
