Sea Salt
Properties
Material Characteristics
Sea salt commonly appears as tiny, squarish, crystals though often it is melted into into crystaline "rocks" of salt weighing as much as 50 kg (110 lb).
Physical & Chemical Properties
This material is solid at room temperature and hard like rock with a tensile strength rating of 3 (Solids such as bread are 1, iron is 8, diamond is 10), it has a salty taste (obviuosly) and an overtly alkaline smell.
Compounds
Sea salt is commonly used in both cooking and food consumption, where it is used to flavour various dishes.
Geology & Geography
Sea salt is extracted from sea water in a process of distilation.
Origin & Source
All bodies of Salt Water on E-type worlds are impressed to lesser or greater degrees with sea salt (Sodium Chloride)
Life & Expiration
Sea salt is a stable compound that bears no chance of volitivity. It is water soluble, and found naturally suspended in water (Dihydrogen Oxide).
History & Usage
History
Sea salt has been used for a spice, preservative, and anti-septic for as long as there has been recorded history. Mortal followers of the Primal Dragons discovered the uses for sea salt, back in the days of Auldewyrm, before there was even writing, and have been using it ever since.
Discovery
The early tribal settlements of dragons and their vassals discovered the uses of sea salt before recorded history. Bronze dragons claim credit, and that seems logical given their predeliction to settling on sea coasts, but was probably actually discovered by early humanoids in service to the proto-dragons.
Everyday use
Salt is used in all manners of food preparation and enjoyment.
Cultural Significance and Usage
The Temple of Adonia has long held a spiritual signifigance to salt in general. It is seen as clean and cleansing, and shields a user against the impure and unclean.
Industrial Use
Salt is used in many industrial processes, from tanning to textiles, canning to cold cuts, salt is almost universally needed by industry.
Refinement
Sea salt is found in a state of being disolved in water. Using the power of Aureldelock (the Sun) or the blessing of Adonia (Fire), the processor distills the salt out of the water, and collects the purified water to sell for drinking, and the salt for sale to a conglomerate.
Hazards
Outside of a dangerous work environment (salt water crocodiles are a thing), there are few hazards in the refining of Sea Salt.
Environmental Impact
The impach that mass scale salt farming has on the environment is minisule.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Saltiers sell sea salt (say that really fast), in both small amounts (under a kg) for households, and bulk for industry
Storage
Sea salt will last indefinitely so long as it's kept dry.
