Draconian Hatchlings

When a Draconian is born, they are in an egg. This article details the specifics of Draconian eggs and their hatching process.

Draconian Eggs

Helle by Jarhed
Draconian eggs appear much like that of Dragons. They are scaled and shaped like traditional ovular eggs, which is how Helle disguised the creation of Draconians, by pretending they and their eggs were Dragons.   Depending on the color of the Draconians, the egg changes. The eggs, first, take on the color of their Draconians, but beyond that they have special properties according to the color, particularly what they feel like. These colors and properties are listed below:
  • Red- Burns
  • Blue- Shocks
  • White- Chills
  • Green- Rustles
  • Black- Drains
  • Yellow- Warms
  • Orange- Burns
  • Brown- Stabilizes
  • Purple- Confuses
Some interesting things about these comes particularly from the final two, as well as green. First, the scales on a Green Draconian egg function similarly to leaves, as they can rustle around. For Brown Draconians, the temperature stabilizes no matter the climate.   For Purple, anyone who touches the egg is confused and begins to believe it is the color of its parents. Purple Draconians, after all, are born at random as a genetic anomaly. Their parents can be any color of Draconian, and they may not have Purple children. However, their eggs appear as the color of their parents if anyone has touched the egg.   Draconian eggs grow as the child does. They begin small for Draconian, so about 2 feet tall. Ultimately they grow to about four-five feet tall as eggs, and the children grow fast after hatching.

The Hatching Process

First, a Draconian egg is laid. Female Draconians, as well as those assigned female at birth, may lay the eggs. This is a straining and painful process, one where their partners are often around to support them (if they have a partner).

Incubation

Afterwards, an egg must be incubated in some manner. The way this must be done depends on the kind of egg it is. Some (Red and Orange) need warmth and fire, while others require distance. Some say the distance needed to keep a White Draconian egg cold is why many, particularly the Nimphonker family, end up cold and detached. They never knew warmth in the egg, and therefore cannot know warmth outside of it as easily.   Green Draconian eggs are often either buried beneath the soil or are placed within nature, such as in a garden or a forest. Some parents guard these eggs while others leave them to nature's will.   When a storm comes for a Blue Draconian egg, they are said to be best left out in the rain. If lightning strikes the egg, it is said to power up the child's magic. Even absorbing rainwater is said to help enrich the child and help them grow big and strong.   Yellow Draconian eggs also need warmth, but they need light as well. Black Draconians eggs, however, do best in the darkness.   Some parents hold their eggs in their arms at night as they sleep, helping them to form a connection with their children. If they already have a child, some parents give the eggs to their children so they may bond with their soon-to-be-siblings.

Hatching

After a 9 month incubation process, the eggs are ready to hatch. They will generally shake a week before hatching, and will also begin to show signs of cracks throughout the week. Finally, as the week ends, the egg cracks open and the baby Draconian hatches.   Some Draconians hatch early, while others have longer processes, where they shake for over a week, or cracks appear for an entire month. The above is only the standard which is why it is said.   It is generally considered a great spectacle and showing of nature's wonder when a Draconian egg hatches. A family is gathered and those who are close to the family, close friends, Village Chiefs, and other figures the parents have met throughout their lives, will come to meet the baby either before, during, or after hatching to show their good tidings to the family.

The First Draconians

Helle, the Goddess of Greed and Envy, created one of every color Draconian to begin the species. These first Draconians all hatched together in the Valley of Creation, what would become the Village of Bortan. These Draconians were:
  1. Daxur the Red
  2. Nurdesh the Green
  3. Tilrak the Blue
  4. Nimphonker the White
  5. Saxan the Black
  6. Wrakris the Orange
  7. Durzire the Yellow
  8. Yelrath the Brown
  9. Dione the Purple
More Draconians were made later, but these 9 were the first, and most of the families have kept great prominence since their founding on that first day of creation. Due to the nature of Purple Dragons, the Dione family fades in and out of prominence as time goes on.
