Guards of Nanda

As our Goddess keeps order among the deities, so too shall we keep order among the people!
The Guards of Nanda is really part of the priesthood of Nanda, the deity of order and control. While the whole priesthood is tasked with worshipping the deity, the Guards are specially trained individuals tasked with keeping order in the whole of Tosormi.

Appointment and Education

Both men and women can be chosen as Guards, and are usually picked from the ranks of priests and priestesses as young teens. The ones chosen are sent to the Guards main temple in the capital where they get, apart from the usual education priests get, training in combat and psychology. All to prepare them for their coming tasks as Guards in society.

Tasks

The main purpose of the Guards is to keep order in Tosormi. It is a quite varied work as it can involve everything from defeating a violent criminal in a fight, to taking care of sick stray animals that have gotten aggressive.   The official work order they have is not simply to act as policemen to bring criminals in for justice but to keep the order in a much more wider sense; they help out with accidents, injuries, lost people, squabbles, abandoned goods or animals etc.

Acceptance Among People

The Guards are overall held in high regard in most places of Tosormi. Their work is very much appreciated as they work hard to keep people safe, and their lives running smoothly.   As they are being closely monitored both by the government and the Church of Nanda, there is rarely Guards going astray from their mission.   Bribes directly to the individual Guards are highly frowned upon, though there has definitely been more than one case where 'donations' to the Church of Nanda make the Guards look the other way.

'Donations', eh?   I really love that part of their training is in psychology. I can see why that would serve a group of guards well. :)

Yeah I kinda wanted them to not just sound like a militant police force, especially with all that's going on irl right now!
