Adventure 1 Session 6 - Belak's bane

General Summary

The party advanced to a large underground cavern at the base of The Sunless Citadel. Spindly trees, shrubs and fungus grew in the weak luminescent light. Moving forward, the party spied a large tree, its branches rising to the cavern roof like a clawed hand.
The voice of Belak addressed them, and moving forward again, the party found him at the base of the tree, accompanied by a bark-skinned humans - a knight and a mage. Belak offered the party the chance to become supplicants to the The Gulthias Tree like his companions. Taman Stormwind accepted, and moved forward, but his obvious deception was seen through by Belak.
Combat broke out, with the party being attacked by Belak and his thralls - Sir Braford and Sharwyn Hurcele - and a large number of Twig Blight minions. Gregor quickly fell victim to a sleep spell cast by Sharwyn, and Taman was ensnared in a surprise attack by Belak's pet giant frog, which had been lurking in the branches of the tree.
As things started to look ever more bleak, Gurgeh excelled himself, breaking through Sir Braford's defences as though they didn't exist, and piercing him through the heart. The former paladin fell.
Eventually, the heroes prevailed, setting the Gulthias Tree aflame and putting Belak and remaining minions to death!

Rewards Granted

The party found a map, pointing to Khundrukar. They also found a pair of books, for which they were rewarded with 50gp by the Kobold Queen. Gurgeh retrieved Sir Braford's sword, Shatterspike.

Missions/Quests Completed

The party returned the body of Sharwyn Hucrele to her mother, Kerowyn Hucrele, along with her brother's signet ring, and received the agreed upon reward.

The party gave Erky Timbers a purse of 100gp for his help. He took his leave, heading for Waterdeep.
