Toril

Welcome to Toril, the land of the Gods. In this Codex you will learn about all the wondrous creatures that inhabit the world as well as a wide variety of other information such as places and events of import and the various races of the world. This guide was written by the fabled hero Volothamp Geddarm. (And edited for accuracy by the great Xanathar and Elminster.) Be sure to pick up Volo’s other famed works such as the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and Volo’s Guide to Monsters.

The world includes terrain that is as varied as any other. From the cultured and enlightened lands of Kara-Tur in the Far East to the more familiar (to me) Sword Coast on the West. Even to the South, the shifting sands of Zakahra are stirring. More lands like the mysterious Osse, and Mazatica crest the deep blue waters.

Toril is a world of terrible evil but also of holy good. It is a land that had been marred by war and death and times of trouble. But it is in the dark times. The moments right before the dawn when the world is at its darkest are when the stars are at their brightest. Heroes, men, and women from every race, barbarians, and kings shine through the nights and bring in the new day for us all.
