Yrxshii'iex'xallzxy (Quthnorak)

Quthnorak (the name he adopts among "lesser creatures," who find it more palatable to their tongues than his given name) is a rogue Mind Flayer, an apparent outcast from his people. He dwells not far from Ust Natha, living under an uneasy alliance with the Drow there.

Personal history

Like the rest of his kind, Quthnorak once lived under the influence of an Elder Brain, a small part of a larger consciousness. This changed when a Drow wizard captured him, intent on dissecting an Illithid to learn more of the mysterious creatures. Quthnorak eventually got the better of his captor, delighting in devouring his captor's brain. When he settled from his frenzy, he came to know an even greater joy than vengeance: freedom. It came to him slowly at first, but once it came to him fully the realization was plain as day: his genius could only reach its full potential unshackled from his fellow Illithids.
He has a working relationship with Ust Natha's Drow rulers, who view him as more useful alive but keep him both at a distance and under constant supervision at once. He of course lives in constant paranoia of his own kind, who would either kill him or bring him back to an Elder Brain to be reindoctrinated.
