Stirge
Parasitic bird-like creatures, Stirges bury their sharp beaks into their prey to draw blood to feed upon. A scourge to agricultural communities in their range, since a swarm of stirges can leave whole flocks-- and often the shepherd as well-- entirely drained of blood.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Thin, skeletal body with four leathery wings. Six additional frail appendages extend from its torso. Feeds using a long proboscis mouth with razor sharp teeth that burrow into a creature to extract blood. Black tufts of hair often present on the head, the rest of the body is characteristically hairless.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
Prevalent throughout Faerun's northern regions, and can also thrive deep within the Underdark.
Average Intelligence
Not very intelligent, but efficient swarm hunters.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Sight predators with keen vision even in pitch black nights or deep caves.
