Woods of Jira

The Woods of Jira are a large mysterious and untamed jungle located in the southeastern part of The Continent. The races that dwell within are mysterious and reclusive and it's rare for outsiders beyond the elven towns that live on the fringes to have ever heard of them nonetheless seen one.     Terrain   The area begins south of the Flenbein River and the terrain rapidly changes from the grasslands of the fertile outskirts of the Destus Region to the tangled and confusing thick jungle trees.   It is known for it's extremely thick trees that are commonly found to be wider than two owlbears standing side by side and the closer you get to the center the larger they get and have been seen to be as wide as 30 feet and tower as high as 70 feet.   It is also rich with vines that have record holding length making it very treacherous to travel through as many are connected to wild and dangerous carnivorous plants. While the area is mostly think and dense jungle there are the Jira Plains within that are filled with luscious grass that is a majestic golden all year round.   To the further south there are large floodplains that receive most of the watershed from the Woods of Jira. The Woods of Jira receive the most rainfall in all of The Continent and there are 3 major rivers that coalesce and dump water into the ocean. The river depth becomes more shallow the further south you go however and the water often spills out into the floodplains.   While it can be hard to tell from the outside there are actually mountain's that run along the sides and out to the coasts as well. These mountains also contain lush valleys and often hold religious or sacred monuments to the residents of the Woods of Jira.   Inhabitants   While the jungle is mostly uninhabited and untamed there are several races that claim the jungle as home. Catfolk  are the most common throughout the forest and typically live in tribes. However, while Catfolk aren't exactly commonly heard of, it is often a misconception that all Catfolk are the same, and the Jungle is home to the largest variety of Catfolk such as the Leonin.   Other notable species are the Kenku people. A flightless and intelligent race that is unable to speak with their own voice and can simply mirror others. They are small in number however and keep to their darkest corner of the jungle.   While dominated by Catfolk, there are also other various groups of races and villages sporadically spread out typically being elves, lizardfolks, or Orcs.   Wildlife and Ecology   The Woods of Jira contain some of the most exotic creatures and plant life on The Continent. Most of the creatures are reclusive and dislike contact with people but there are plenty of aggressive and territorial creatures such as the Giant Apes, Boars, Quippers, and Crocodiles.   Carnivorous Plants are also plentiful in the Woods of Jira and any curious adventure must be on their watch for them. It is not recommended to eat many of the plants in the Woods of Jira if not familiar as many of the brightest and plushest fruits are poisonous to the Common and other Races.   Along with the typical jungle ecology it is also home to Tomeria's largest known source of Dinosaurs . It is unknown how many or how they even get there or travel inbetween there and the rest of their grazing lands. There is theories among many academics that there is a large trail that skirts the Hanging Cliffs that is hidden to the passing eye.   Notable Settlements/Cities   While it is presumed that the Catfolk that inhabitant the majority of the Jungle have their main settlements, these are not known to outsiders except those researchers who are interested and studying the area. There are 3 elven villages on the outskirts that tend to do sporadic trading with the Catfolk inside.
